(Photo by Howard Freshman, Contributing Photographer)\n<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"#\" class=\"icon-enlarge mng-gallery-fullscreen-expand\" aria-label=\"Expand fullscreen slideshow\">Expand<\/a><\/p>\n<p>LONG BEACH \u2014 Wilson junior sprinter Kaedyn Burroughs had his doubts but was determined to give it his all in his signature event.<\/p>\n<p>Despite battling a recent injury, Burroughs dug deep and won the boys 400m title in a personal best time of 46.65 at the Moore League Track and Finals at Long Beach Poly High Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt feels great because I was dealing with some injuries on Tuesday,\u201d Burroughs said, \u201cbut my coach just told me to do my best, whatever I got is OK, and I overcame my fears and did my best, and it came with a pr.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Burroughs, who now ranks No. 3 in California in the 400, said he is looking forward to fine-tuning his speed over the next several weeks of training and competitions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt gives me great confidence knowing I can go 46 already running it three times,\u201d Burroughs continued. \u201cI feel like sooner than later, I\u2019ll keep dropping and dropping (times) until I get to that 45.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Wilson junior sprinter Clara Adams led the Bruins girls team with victories in the 200 (23.94) and the 400 (52.80).Adams\u2019 time of 52.80 is the fastest 400-meter time to date in California. Her personal best is 52.58.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll that tells me is to keep training hard,\u201d Adams said. \u201cDon\u2019t change anything. Whatever I\u2019ve been doing, it\u2019s been working, so I\u2019m going to keep doing it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, she noted that it was her first time running the 400 in under 53 seconds in April. She believes that a great sign with CIF-SS finals, CIF Masters, and the CIF State Meet coming up in May.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have room for growth,\u201d Adams said, \u201cand by state I\u2019m hoping to run a sub-52 or even faster than that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Fellow Bruin junior Saniah Varnado finished second in the 400 in a personal best time of 53.19. She followed that up by winning the girls 300 hurdles in 42 seconds flat.<\/p>\n<p>Wilson sophomore Brooklyn Fowler and senior Brooke Blue also ran 54.21 and 54.29, respectively, setting up the Bruins for a potential blazing time in the 4\u00d7400 during the CIF postseason.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt actually means a lot for me for my team to be up there with me,\u201d Adams continued. \u201cI\u2019m proud of myself. I\u2019m proud of my teammates. One of my teammates just pr\u2019d, so I\u2019m happy for her. Overall, I think we\u2019re doing so good and I think we\u2019re in the right position to win.\u201d<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Long Beach Wilson\u2019s Clara Adams on running 52.80 to win the 400m at the Moore League Track and Field Finals and  how fast she thinks she can run during May at CIF-SS Finals, Masters Meet or the CIF State Meet. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/KPEpXmZNTG\" rel=\"nofollow\">pic.twitter.com\/KPEpXmZNTG<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 John W. Countless days and nights, just putting in work, grinding. Overcoming setbacks, just bouncing back, and knowing who I am.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dawson battled back from a season-ending injury he suffered in his sophomore year to a season-best 100m time of 10.58.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt gives me a lot of confidence (going into CIF),\u201d Dawson explained. \u201cI feel like I\u2019m a dog right now. I am an underdog. I should have been at state, so me just remembering the feeling of not getting to state, using that fire to get me to where I need to be.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Poly\u2019s boys team edged out Wilson in the 4\u00d7400 relay. The Jackrabbits ran 3:15.28. The Bruins finished second in 3:16.03.<\/p>\n<p>Poly senior Aniyah Brooks won the girls 100 in 12.07. It was her first individual Moore League title. Her personal and season best time is 11.65.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve been wanting this all year,\u201d Brooks said. \u201cSo I\u2019m finally glad I was able to come out here and do this.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Poly senior Noah Smith, who signed with USC, finished second in the 200 (21.68) and 400 (47.01).<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Wilson senior Wyland Obando (Mississippi State signee), the defending CIF State champion in the 800, started his signature event but did not finish because of an injury.<\/p>\n<p>Wilson\u2019s girls\u2019 track team and the Poly boys\u2019 team won their respective Moore League team titles.<\/p>\n<p>Wilson senior Journii Spencer won the girls triple jump with a school record mark of 39 feet and 3.5 inches.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to crowning local champions, the meet allowed dozens of Moore League athletes to qualify for CIF Southern Section prelims on May 9. CIF-SS Finals will be on May 16. The Masters Meet will be on May 23.
