Organizers are also pushing a call to skip work, school and shopping in what they’re calling an “economic blackout.”

The day’s largest mobilization begins at 10 a.m. at MacArthur Park, a longtime gathering site for labor and immigrant-rights movements in L.A. From there, demonstrators will march about 3 miles, moving east along Wilshire Boulevard before continuing through a route that includes Union Avenue, West 7th Street, Flower Street, West 5th Street, South Broadway and West 1st Street. They will end at Gloria Molina Grand Park, where they will hold their final rally.

The Los Angeles May Day Coalition is organizing the actions this year — a network of more than 125 organizations, including labor unions, immigrant rights groups, faith communities, student organizations, LGBTQ+ advocates and local civic groups.

The central theme, “Workers Over Billionaires,” reflects a broader national message coordinated by May Day Strong that calls for structural economic reforms. Among the coalition’s stated priorities are a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants, expanded affordable housing, higher taxation on the wealthy and stronger labor protections.

Drivers should expect rolling closures and significant delays across Wilshire and throughout the downtown core during peak march hours, about 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Local officials anticipate intermittent street shutdowns as the procession moves through the city.

Public transit users may also experience delays or rerouting, particularly on bus lines crossing Wilshire Boulevard and 7th Street. Riders are advised to check real-time updates before traveling through downtown.

LINE 460: Buses on Route 460 detour due to a demonstration on May 1 from 10:00 AM-3:30 PM.

Toward Disneyland, stops from 5th / Los Angeles -5th / Spring will not be served.

Toward Downtown LA – 6th – Los Angeles, stops from Figueroa / 7th -6th / Broadway will not be served. pic.twitter.com/Z9CtofdNRM

— LA Metro Rider Alerts (@metrolaalerts) May 1, 2026

The Los Angeles march is part of a broader national labor movement tied to International Workers’ Day, or May Day, observed globally as a day of worker solidarity.

Scroll to continue reading

“May Day is more than a celebration of unity and resilience — let it be a call to action,” said Angelica Salas, executive director of the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles (CHIRLA). “Because when we organize, when we mobilize, when we stand shoulder to shoulder, we are unstoppable.”

She added that immigration policy remains central to the coalition’s message, arguing that systemic reforms affect everything from housing costs to wages and community stability.

As Los Angeles once again becomes a focal point for May Day activism, the demonstrations will highlight both labor demands and a broader debate over economic inequality — and who the city and country ultimately serve.

Demonstrators will travel through downtown Los Angeles demanding labor protections, immigration reform, and higher taxes on the wealthy…

[27
39724,6858,14,48,52,51,845,47,50,49,20459,2302,7361,125435
post-295304","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-los-angeles","tag-chirla","tag-dtla","tag-immigration","tag-la","tag-la-headlines","tag-la-news","tag-labor","tag-los-angeles","tag-los-angeles-headlines","tag-los-angeles-news","tag-macarthur-park","tag-may","tag-protests","tag-wilshire-bouelvard
["GET
