\u201cEverything that we raised tonight, from the ticket sales and all the profits are going directly back to the student athletes and helping support our student athlete scholarships and putting young people through college and letting them play the sport that they love playing,\u201d said Sarah Tuohy, CSUB\u2019s acting athletic director.<\/p>\n

People know the CSUB Spring BBQ, and for years they had a fantastic group of people that did it,\u201d said Jeff Salters, owner of Salty\u2019s BBQ. \u201cLast year they approached us and said \u2018Hey, we\u2019ve got to make some changes.\u2019 So, we were honored. You get asked to be a part of such an iconic event in our community, it\u2019s a great honor and a great privilege to be a part of this.\u201d<\/p>\n Under the soundtrack of a live band, attendees were able to enjoy their food while conversing with players and head coaches, including new basketball coach, Todd Lee.<\/p>\n \u201cWe used to do it at the fairgrounds, and we\u2019d look forward to it every spring and summer because it was the event of Bakersfield,\u201d Lee said. \u201cNow we\u2019re here at Cal State Bakersfield, and it\u2019s a great venue and it brings so many people out. It\u2019s great.\u201d<\/p>\n Another coach in attendance: baseball coach Jordan Banfield, preparing for a huge Big West series against UC Santa Barbara, one of the country\u2019s best baseball programs.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m looking for us to go play the best version of baseball that we\u2019re capable of. Take care of the baseball, fill up the strike zone, control the things that we can control,\u201d Banfield said. \u201cIf the messaging we\u2019ve been trying to deliver starts to show itself, we\u2019ll be the same group that we\u2019ve been.\u201d<\/p>\n
