A suspect is in custody in a disturbing double homicide investigation on Long Island after two people were stabbed to death early Friday morning, Nassau County police said.

Law enforcement sources said a woman was killed at around 12:30 a.m. while taking out the trash at a Wendy’s restaurant in Island Park, where she worked the late shift.

A second stabbing victim was found approximately two and a half hours later at a home on West Mineola Avenue in Valley Stream.

“We want justice, because, this is insane,” said Lama, who was distraught. “We want justice, justice for Ana.”

The owner of the restaurant said she had worked there for a few years.

“Everyone can describe her like a good person. She has no enemies. We don’t know what happened,” Lama said.

Investigators spent hours Friday searching storm drains outside the Island Park restaurant and collecting evidence from the gray, two-story home in Valley Stream.

“Feeling a little upset because they seem like decent people. They were very quiet, never heard any issues or confrontations going on there, and it’s sad,” neighbor Anthony Roldan said.

“I’ve not gotten much information from the police, but I figured that it has to be something serious, because the place is taped off,” said Bishop Claude Hibbert, whose church is next to the Valley Stream crime scene. “It’s normally a very, very peaceful area.”

“So unusual to see this many cop cars”

Others said the neighborhood is normally safe and they were shocked when they heard the news.

“We’re right near the Village Hall. We’re right near the park, the train station. There’s usually a lot of people coming and going. Generally speaking, a quiet part of town,” said Mike Steinke.

“I don’t even lock my vehicle over here, that’s how safe it is. So it’s unusual to see this many cop cars,” Deryck Young said.

“People don’t, nobody knows how to communicate and use their words. Right away you have to be violent,” Marissa Plesser said.

“You can’t judge a neighborhood or a community off one situation. This could have happened anywhere,” neighbor Milton Ponce said.

Police plan to hold a briefing Saturday to explain the relationship between the suspect and the victims. It’s expected the suspect will be charged and arraigned at that time.
