San Diego State starting wide receiver Jacob Bostick will miss the remainder of the year after undergoing season-ending surgery this week to repair a knee injury.<\/p>\n
Bostick suffered a non-contact injury last week in practice. He had surgery on Tuesday. Though there was no ligament damage, healing will require more than the month remaining in the regular season. Bostick should be fully recovered for spring practice.<\/p>\n
The junior from Palatine, Ill., transferred to SDSU in the spring after a year at Texas A&M and two years at Iowa.<\/p>\n
He is SDSU\u2019s third-leading receiver in catches (11) and yardage (157) and has a team-high three receiving touchdowns. Bostick made an immediate impact for the Aztecs, scoring a touchdown in the season opener against Stony Brook and another the following week at Washington State. His third TD came at Nevada.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe\u2019s had three fluke, season-ending injuries,\u201d SDSU coach Sean Lewis said. \u201cAt some point in time, the young man\u2019s luck needs to change.\u201d<\/p>\n
Bostick will have two years of eligibility remaining if, as expected, he receives a medical redshirt for this season.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe\u2019s a dynamic playmaker and key contributor who has consistently gotten better,\u201d Lewis said. \u201cIt stinks for him individually. I really feel for him. He\u2019s had quite a bit of adversity and obstacles that are going to continue to make him stronger and fortify his character.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re excited to get him back healthy and as good as ever when the time is right for that. In the same breath, the goals and the objectives of this special season don\u2019t change. We have to have the next man step up. A bunch of guys have embraced that opportunity, and we\u2019ll continue to go forward from there.\u201d<\/p>\n
SDSU could make up for the loss of Bostick by committee. A pair of San Diego-area products will compete for additional playing time.<\/p>\n
Redshirt freshman Will Cianfrini (Carlsbad High School) replaced Bostick in the starting lineup over the weekend at Fresno State. Cianfrini was slowed by a hamstring injury coming into the season, and he is still looking for his first reception.<\/p>\n
Another candidate is Fresno State junior transfer Nathan Acevedo, a Lincoln High School grad who has six receptions for 50 yards this season.<\/p>\n
