{"id":297013,"date":"2026-05-02T20:59:08","date_gmt":"2026-05-02T20:59:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/297013\/"},"modified":"2026-05-02T20:59:08","modified_gmt":"2026-05-02T20:59:08","slug":"california-dad-claims-dutch-horse-trader-knowingly-sold-lame-475k-equine","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/297013\/","title":{"rendered":"California dad claims Dutch horse trader knowingly sold lame $475K equine"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A California man is galloping to court after a Dutch horse dealer allegedly saddled him with a $500,000 lemon.<\/p>\n<p>Gary Kamins sent his now 25-year-old daughter Gabby, who did competitive horse riding as a child, and her trainer Charmaine Levinson to Europe in August 2021, to pick out a horse for her to ride in competitions, he said in a lawsuit.<\/p>\n<p>The pair settled on a $475,000 male horse named Grodino from Alan Waldman, whose Netherlands-based Waldman Horses allowed only a brief medical exam and provided no veterinary records, Kamins claimed in court papers.<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:0.49933422;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"39260946\" width=\"295\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/www-facebook-com-waldmanhorses-https-126801752.jpg\" alt=\"alan waldman\" class=\"wp-image-39260946\"  \/>Alan Waldman allegedly knew the horse had a medical issue before the sale. Alan Waldman\/ Facebook<\/p>\n<p>But by the time the horse, whose barn name was \u201cDino,\u201d was transported to the port of Los Angeles and on his way to Levinson\u2019s Pacific Palisades stable, Kamins alleged it was clear something wasn\u2019t right.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOnce Dino arrive at Cha Cha\u2019s horse and training facility\u2026[the horse] showed signs of physical pain and distress,\u201d Kamins alleged in the California Federal Court papers.<\/p>\n<p>Dino refused to do any jumps or training, and vets eventually realized he had a painful bone spur in its spine and a \u201cprogressive negative spinal condition.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNotwithstanding intensive veterinary care by Kamins for Dino, Dino never recovered and never competed in competition,\u201d he claimed in the lawsuit, which alleged Waldman refused to refund the purchase price.<\/p>\n<p>The doting dad was also out four years of funds he paid to Levinson to train and try to rehabilitate Dino, he said in the lawsuit, without detailing the amount. <\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.51928783;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"39260945\" width=\"896\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/geerenweg-2-putten-netherlands-3755-126801233.jpg\" alt=\"sign for waldman horses\" class=\"wp-image-39260945\"  \/>Waldman Horses, based in the Netherlands, did not immediately respond to a message seeking comment.
