The San Francisco home of the man who built Gap, quite literally, is on the market for $17.25 million.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The property<\/a> in the city\u2019s Russian Hill neighborhood belonged to the late Ann and Bob Fisher, once one of the most prolific retail contractors in the U.S. and who launched his business off building stores for the clothing chain.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Bob\u2019s brother, Donald Fisher, was the co-founder of Gap, which he and his wife, Doris Fisher, launched in San Francisco in 1969. By 1974, when the couple wanted to expand the brand quickly, they turned to Bob, a builder, to construct their stores.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Bob reportedly developed a system of rolling out stores that became a model for the industry, and by the late \u201990s \u201cShopping Center World Magazine ranked Fisher the largest retail contractor in the United States several years in a row,\u201d according to his obituary.<\/a>\u00a0<\/p>\n

The three-bedroom house was built by Bob, who died in October, to be his family home in 1998. It\u2019s being sold by his children.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a special house,\u201d said Stacey Caen of Sotheby\u2019s International Realty \u2013 San Francisco Brokerage. Caen brought the home to the market earlier this week alongside colleague Joseph Lucier.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople are just mesmerized by the views,\u201d she said, which take in the San Francisco Bay, Alcatraz and the Marin Headlands. \u201cWhen you\u2019re in that living room, it\u2019s the most serene, beautiful, calming room to be in, and you just stare out at the water in front of you.\u201d<\/p>\n

The agents \u201chad an evening showing [on Wednesday] and the sun was setting so perfectly, and two cruise ships were going past in front of Alcatraz. It was remarkable to see,\u201d Caen said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The house spans upward of 6,200 square feet, and has oversized windows to take advantage of those sightlines, along with an eat-in chef\u2019s kitchen, a formal dining room,\u00a0 a skylight-topped staircase and a newly refreshed look.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen we were getting it ready to resell, we took a few months to reimagine the interiors to give it a 2026 look,\u201d Caen said. \u201cWe painted every surface, sanded floors, did some repair work\u2014it\u2019s spectacular.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

The late owner\u2019s favorite spot was a room dubbed \u201cClub Bob,\u201d Caen explained. The space was where \u201che played games, it was his office, where he would watch sports,\u201d and it opens directly onto an ocean-facing balcony.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The agents have seen strong initial interest. \u201cAs soon as a good house is on the market it\u2019s getting sold,\u201d Caen said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

That\u2019s no surprise, given how San Francisco\u2019s home market is booming right now.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In March, house prices in the city hit a record median sale price of $2.15 million, up 18% year over year. The city and the wider Bay Area has long been a hotbed of tech money, but its housing market had slumped post Covid.
