Here\u2019s a hint: he\u2019s got four legs and used to be a she.<\/p>\n
Meet Elliot, the resident cat at Bookhounds in downtown Bakersfield.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe was previously known as Eleanor,\u201d said Evelyn Martinez, Bookhounds\u2019 manager.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe thought he was a girl for the longest, and then late last year, the vet broke the news to us that she was actually a boy.\u201d<\/p>\n
Elliot is believed to be around seven-years-old and may just be the shop\u2019s most popular \u201cemployee.\u201d<\/p>\n
Weedpatch State Park (or whatever it\u2019s going to be called) to embark soon on history-finding mission <\/a><\/p>\n \u201cA lot of the customers know him. They come in, see him, \u2018Oh, hi, Elliot,\u2019\u201d Martinez said.<\/p>\n While Elliot gets plenty of attention from visitors, the staff say he has his favorites, too often choosing which employee to spend time with. One feeds him, and one cuddles him. It\u2019s a tough choice.<\/p>\n His \u201csalary\u201d is food, shelter and plenty of love.<\/p>\n When he\u2019s not roaming the aisles or keeping an eye on the checkout counter, Elliot can usually be found curled up in one of several cozy beds tucked away in the office. And like any good coworker, he knows when it\u2019s time to take a break.<\/p>\n \u201cMore than anything, it\u2019s just listening to his cues and respecting his space,\u201d Martinez said.<\/p>\n But when he is in the mood to socialize, Elliot\u2019s personality shines.<\/p>\n
