{"id":298718,"date":"2026-05-04T04:38:10","date_gmt":"2026-05-04T04:38:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/298718\/"},"modified":"2026-05-04T04:38:10","modified_gmt":"2026-05-04T04:38:10","slug":"asian-american-artists-shine-at-san-francisco-art-fair-amid-ongoing-anti-immigrant-rhetoric","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/298718\/","title":{"rendered":"Asian-American artists shine at San Francisco Art Fair amid ongoing anti-immigrant rhetoric"},"content":{"rendered":"<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">At April\u2019s San Francisco Art Fair at the Fort Mason Centre\u2019s Festival Pavilion, artists, curators and gallerists made a strong engagement with Asian and Asian-American identity at a moment when anti-immigrant rhetoric continues to divide the US.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">In a city where close to 35 per cent of the population identifies as Asian, the 14th edition of the annual fair became a space where Asian-American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) voices were not only vocal, but central, said fair director Kelly Freeman.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">\u201cWe looked around and saw these incredible AAPI voices and thought, \u2018Let\u2019s start talking about that,\u2019\u201d said Freeman, who is also vice-president of event operations and partnerships for Art Market Productions, the organiser of this and other fairs.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">\u201cMore than ever, we need to celebrate every voice. Photo: Hunter Ridenour\/AMP<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">The message was loud and clear in the curated group exhibition commissioned by the fair, as well as in a pop-up design store featuring more than 70 Asian diaspora artists and brands.<\/p>\n<p>The group exhibition was called \u201cDa Da Daam\u201d, a play on a Cantonese expression meaning bold and audacious that also references the Dada art movement that developed in the aftermath of World War I.
