WASHINGTON (TNND) — Security video appears to show a police K-9 suspicious of a man just moments before a Secret Service officer was shot at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner on April 25.

The footage captures the suspect, who authorities identified as 31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen, walk down a hallway and into a room off-camera.

A leashed K-9, wearing a vest, crosses the hallway with its handler and follows Allen into the room. The dog moves out of view for a few seconds before the officer appears to pull back on the leash, appearing to redirect the animal away from Allen.

Within seconds, the suspect runs out of the room brandishing a long gun and shoots the Secret Service officer. The officer was wearing a bulletproof vest and survived.

It wasn’t immediately clear what role the K-9 served at the event, but police dogs are trained for a wide range of duties, from detecting drugs, electronics, and explosives, to tracking missing people and assisting officers in arresting suspects.

U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro shared the footage on Thursday night.

FULL VIDEO”Today, we are releasing video already provided to U.S. District Court showing Cole Allen shoot a U.S. Secret Service officer during his attempt to assassinate the President,” Pirro wrote on X.”There is no evidence the shooting was the result of friendly fire,” she added.

According to Pirro, the video shows Allen casing the area in the Washington Hilton the day before the attack, with Allen seen walking in a hallway of the hotel, as well as talking with a woman in the gym.

The footage also appears to show officers firing their guns at the suspect as he runs through the hotel while holding the gun.

Allen was arrested and faces multiple charges, including attempted assassination, and could receive a life sentence if convicted.
