{"id":299128,"date":"2026-05-04T13:28:08","date_gmt":"2026-05-04T13:28:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/299128\/"},"modified":"2026-05-04T13:28:08","modified_gmt":"2026-05-04T13:28:08","slug":"long-beach-airport-is-getting-a-37m-glow-up-before-the-olympics","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/299128\/","title":{"rendered":"Long Beach Airport is getting a $37M glow-up before the Olympics"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last month, Long Beach Airport commenced work <a href=\"https:\/\/www.longbeach.gov\/press-releases\/long-beach-airport-breaks-ground-on-$37-million-concourse-enhancement-project\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">on $37-million overhaul of its passenger concourse in the lead up to the 2028 Olympic Games.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis project represents an important investment in Long Beach\u2019s future and the millions of travelers who choose our award-winning Airport each year,\u201d said Long Beach Mayor Rex Richardson in a news release. \u201cAs we prepare to welcome the world for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games, we are ensuring LGB continues to deliver a modern, comfortable and uniquely Southern California travel experience.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Per a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.longbeach.gov\/lgb\/community-information\/passenger-concourse-enhancement-project\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">project landing page<\/a> on the Long Beach Airport website, the renovation will include:<\/p>\n<p>Remodeling of the existing 11 gate areas, restrooms, and a new service animal relief area. Improvements to the existing central garden area including additional hardscape, seating, canopies, lighting, and a public announcement system. Upgraded seating with charging stations. Creation of two open-air garden areas at the exterior of the north and south concourse. Enhanced wayfinding signage and flight information displays Installation of a back-up generator and upgraded mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. Incorporating sustainability features including LED lighting Extension of the exterior pedestrian canopy to Pad 11.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Construction, which is being carried out by PCL Construction Services, is on track for completion in Summer 2027.<\/p>\n<p>Long Beach is financing the project in part through a more than $24-million grant provided by the Federal Aviation Administration.
