Booming excitement and blaring beat drops could be heard surrounding the Intramural Fields at Cal State Fullerton, as Associated Students held their annual Spring Concert Saturday night.

Headliners started their performances at 5 p.m. after gates opened to the field at 3 p.m. Orange County native Rebecca Black took the stage first with her DJ set and was soon followed by alternative Latin sierreño artist DannyLux. They were followed by headlining DJ sets from Australian producer Wax Motif and the most highly anticipated DJ, Mustard.

“Something feels different about performing in your own city,” Black, the Anaheim Hills native, said to the Daily Titan. “Even as I was listening to new mixes of my new album as I was driving down here, because I live up in LA now, it feels different and my new album is so about being from Orange County (and) it’s so repping Anaheim. So it’s so fun to experience what that feels like being here.”

Once the gates opened, guests were greeted with a variety of experiences, some of which were vendors distributing free takeaways, tote bags, T-shirts, bracelet making, wellness tents, photobooths, attractions and more.

Fourth-year child and adolescent studies major Isabella Contreras, who was working at the booth for Ubatuba Acai, expressed that the booth was extremely successful from a vendor’s perspective. Contreras was happy to experience the live music while working, while students really enjoyed the free miniature acai bowls the booth offered.

“Everyone was super helpful with me trying to find a space to park or where I could drop off my things,” Contreras said. “I’ve had a lot of the workers ask if I need anything, like any food or water which I really appreciate because I don’t know when I’m going to get a break. I felt really supported, it was nice. Plus I get to enjoy live music.”

As the musical medleys of all the artists occurred, food trucks lined the area along with tables for Titans to relax and indulge, while continuing to vibe to the music.

As the majority of the performances were done by DJs, DannyLux’s performance consisted of sad, hype and love songs from his own discography. This variety of vibes brought a new style to Spring Concert that the campus has not experienced before.

“We really wanted to add someone like DannyLux,” said ASI Program Coordinator Aundrea Nunez. “We’ve never done Mexican artists before so it’s really cool to have a big stage like this to cater to all our students.”

The artist’s feature in the lineup brought a good energy that didn’t stop short at the crowd’s experience. The singer-songwriter describes the mutual connection from floor to stage throughout his performance.

“I love doing things like this,” DannyLux said. “I love seeing all you guys, I didn’t get to go to college so it’s kind of sick living this experience with you guys so it’s fire.”

Mustard’s set began with a display of his name on the back screen and CSUF students rushed over to the stage for his spectacular set where he shouted to the crowd how he wanted everyone to get loud and crazy.

Camaraderie was on theme as his set ensued and students opened up for dance circles to enjoy the beats of “Not Like Us” by Kendrick Lamar, “POP DAT THANG” by Da Baby, “All I Do Is Win” by DJ Khaled and many more beats that kept energy high.

Not typically on theme with Mustard’s style, he concluded his set with “Party in the USA” by Miley Cyrus and exited the stage shortly after, leaving the concert-goers in awe of the experience they just shared.

The headlining artists are used to playing for sold-out arenas or large music festivals like Coachella and EDC Las Vegas, but the CSUF campus setting was still rewarding for them.

“I think the intimate setting can have better energy a lot of times,” Wax Motif said to the Daily Titan. “The bigger crowds, you can feel pretty disconnected and it’s quite a big distance sometimes. Smaller means better energy sometimes.”

Booming excitement and blaring beat drops could be heard surrounding the Intramural Fields at Cal State Fullerton, as…

[36
163,165,164,17876,3146,16547,330
post-299198","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-anaheim","tag-anaheim","tag-anaheim-headlines","tag-anaheim-news","tag-concert","tag-dj","tag-live","tag-music
["GET
