TO THE RACES. WE’RE GOING TO TALK ABOUT THAT BIG WARM UP IN A FEW MINUTES. HEATHER. THANK YOU. WE GO NOW TO OUR COMMITMENT 2026 COVERAGE. NOW, JUST 28 DAYS FROM CALIFORNIA’S JUNE PRIMARY. AND WHILE THE POLLS POLLS WON’T OPEN UNTIL THEN, ALL COUNTIES WERE REQUIRED TO MAIL BALLOTS TO REGISTERED VOTERS BY TODAY. AND IN SACRAMENTO COUNTY, BALLOT DROP BOXES ARE ALREADY OPEN. KCRA 3’S PEYTON HEADLEE IS LIVE OUTSIDE THE COUNTY ADMINISTRATION BUILDING, SO VOTERS CAN CAST THEIR BALLOT REALLY ANY TIME OF DAY, RIGHT? YES. SO THEY HAVE ONE OF THEIR 247 BALLOT DROP BOXES HERE. YOU CAN SEE IT OVER THERE WITH THAT WHITE SLOT RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE TO STICK YOUR BALLOT IN. AND SO IT IS A 247 BALLOT DROP BOX BECAUSE IT IS OUTSIDE THE COUNTY ONLY HAS A FEW OF THEM AND THEY ARE ALL UNDER 24 OVER SEVEN SURVEILLANCE. AND OF COURSE, THIS IS JUST ONE OF THE OPTIONS WHERE YOU CAN VOTE IN SACRAMENTO COUNTY. BALLOTS ARE HITTING MAILBOXES, AND THIS ONE IS LONG. THERE ARE A LOT OF CANDIDATES ON THE BALLOT. KEN CASPARIS, A SPOKESPERSON FOR SACRAMENTO COUNTY, SAYS THESE BALLOT PACKETS HAVE SOMETHING NEW INSIDE. WE KNOW IN THE PAST, PEOPLE HAVE HAD SOME CONCERNS WITH THOSE ACCESSIBLE HOLES THAT WE HAVE IN ON OUR PINK ENVELOPES THAT INDICATE WHERE A PERSON WITH VISION IMPAIRMENT SHOULD PUT THEIR SIGNATURE FOR THIS ELECTION, JUST TO KIND OF PROVIDE A LEVEL OF COMFORT FOR PEOPLE WHO MAY BE CONCERNED ABOUT THAT. WE’VE INCLUDED THIS ORANGE PRIVACY SLEEVE. THE SLEEVE CAN BE USED TO COVER YOUR BALLOT AND KEEP YOUR VOTE FROM SHOWING THROUGH. FEELS LIKE AN UNUSUAL ELECTION WITH SOME CANDIDATES ON THE BALLOT. A LOT OF FOLKS, I THINK ARE STILL UNDECIDED, SO I’M LOOKING FORWARD TO IT. AS JUNE 2ND GETS CLOSER, CALIFORNIA VOTERS ARE DECIDING WHO GETS THEIR VOTE AND HOW THEY’LL CAST IT. HOW DO YOU INTEND TO VOTE THIS ELECTION BY MAIL? EVER SINCE, YOU KNOW, LIKE 2020, JUST I GET IT IN THE MAIL AND IT’S REALLY EASY AND CONVENIENT. SO YEAH, I’LL MAIL IT IN. I’M A LITTLE OLD SCHOOL AND I LIKE PARTICIPATING AND I, I LIKE GOING TO MY POLLING PLACE AND DROPPING OFF MY BALLOT IF I CAN. WHICHEVER WAY YOU WANT TO VOTE, THERE’S, THERE’S A GOOD WAY TO DO IT. THE ELECTIONS OFFICE IS ALREADY PREPARING FOR THOSE VOTES TO COME IN. YOU CAN DROP YOUR BALLOT OFF IN ANY OF THE 60 PLUS BALLOT DROP BOXES THAT WE HAVE THROUGHOUT THE COMMUNITY, OR YOU COULD MAIL IT BACK. POSTAGE IS PAID. AND FOR THOSE WHO LIKE TO VOTE IN PERSON, THE VOTING CENTERS WILL OPEN TEN DAYS BEFORE ELECTION DAY, AND THEN EVEN MORE WILL OPEN FOUR DAYS BEFORE ELECTION DAY. FOR SOME OF THOS

In Sacramento County, ballot drop boxes are already open. Ken Casparis, a spokesperson for Sacramento County, explained a new addition to the ballot packets this year. “We know in the past people have had some concerns with those accessible holes that we have on our pink envelopes that indicate where a person with vision impairment should put their signature. For this election, just to kind of provide a level of comfort for people who may be concerned about that, we’ve included this orange privacy sleeve,” Casparis said. The privacy sleeve can be used to cover the ballot and prevent votes from showing through the envelope. As the primary draws closer, voters are deciding both who will get their votes and how they will cast them. “Ever since, you know, like 2020, just I get it in the mail, and it’s really easy and convenient. So yeah, I’ll mail it,” Spencer Goodheart said. “Whichever way you want to vote, there’s a good way to do it,”Another voter shared their preference for in-person voting, saying, “I’m a little old school, and I like participating, and I like going to my physical polling place and dropping my ballot off if I can.” The elections office is preparing for ballots to come in. “You can drop your ballot off in any of the 60-plus ballot drop boxes that we have throughout the community. Or you could mail it back. Postage is paid,” Casparis said. For those who prefer voting in person, vote centers will open 10 days before election day. The last day to register to vote is May 18, and counties participating in the Voter’s Choice Act will open vote centers on Saturday, May 23. Polls will close at 8 p.m. on Election Day.
