{"id":300593,"date":"2026-05-05T09:33:19","date_gmt":"2026-05-05T09:33:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/300593\/"},"modified":"2026-05-05T09:33:19","modified_gmt":"2026-05-05T09:33:19","slug":"long-beach-state-only-team-under-par-after-first-round-at-big-west-championship","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/300593\/","title":{"rendered":"Long Beach State Only Team Under Par After First Round At Big West Championship"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>LA QUINTA, Calif. \u2013 Long Beach State Men&#8217;s Golf controlled the action in the first day at the Big West Championship, navigating windy conditions for a 14-stroke lead after the opening round at La Quinta Country Club.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/scoreboard.clippd.com\/tournaments\/240005\/scoring\/team\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Day One Results<\/a><br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nComing in as the favorites, Long Beach State had four of the seven total rounds under par on Sunday, led by Graduate <a href=\"https:\/\/longbeachstate.com\/sports\/mens-golf\/roster\/steen-zeman\/9491\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"9491\" target=\"_blank\">Steen Zeman<\/a> who had no bogeys and five birdies in a five-under 67 to lead the tournament.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nSeniors <a href=\"https:\/\/longbeachstate.com\/sports\/mens-golf\/roster\/jack-cantlay\/9484\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"9484\" target=\"_blank\">Jack Cantlay<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/longbeachstate.com\/sports\/mens-golf\/roster\/alejandro-de-castro-piera\/9486\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"9486\" target=\"_blank\">Alejandro de Castro Piera<\/a> were both tied for second with rounds of 69, and <a href=\"https:\/\/longbeachstate.com\/sports\/mens-golf\/roster\/jaden-huggins\/9489\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"9489\" target=\"_blank\">Jaden Huggins<\/a> was under par at 71 in a tie for fifth place overall.
