BRIAN MASON WAS CAPTURED ON DOORBELL VIDEO GOING UP TO HOUSES IN THE ARDEN-ARCADE AREA WITH A KNIFE IN HAND, AND HE WAS ARRESTED LAST WEEK AND RELEASED OVER THE WEEKEND. AND THEN HE WAS ARRESTED HOURS LATER FOR TRESPASSING. AND TODAY WAS HIS FIRST COURT APPEARANCE SINCE HE WAS TAKEN INTO CUSTODY A SECOND TIME, BUT IT TOOK HOURS TO BEGIN BECAUSE HIS OUTBURST KEPT DELAYING THE PROCEEDINGS IN COURT. WE WAITED NEARLY TWO HOURS FOR BRIAN MASON TO BE BROUGHT OUT. AND ONCE HE HEARD THE CHARGES, WELL, HE WASN\u2019T VERY HAPPY. HE BEGAN DEMANDING HIS PAPERWORK AS WELL AS CURSING AT THE COURT. LET\u2019S LISTEN IN. I WAS TELLING ME I\u2019M LOOKING AT A VIOLATION OF TRESPASSING. PAPERWORK. WHAT THE. WATCH YOUR LANGUAGE AND HEAD DOWNSTAIRS. CAN I HAVE SOME PAPERWORK THAT SAYS WHAT TIME I\u2019M LOOKING AT? 56 YEAR OLD BRIAN MASON WAS ARRESTED TWICE OVER THE WEEKEND. HE WAS ORIGINALLY SEEN THURSDAY NIGHT ON RING CAMERA VIDEOS ON LA SIERRA DRIVE IN ARDEN PARK, GOING UP TO HOMES WITH A KNIFE AND MAKING A STABBING MOTION REPEATEDLY. DEPUTIES SAY NO ONE WAS HURT, AND NEIGHBORS SAY THEY\u2019RE SCARED FOR THEIR SAFETY. DEPUTIES THEN ARRESTED MATTSON SATURDAY MORNING, SAYING THEY COULD ONLY BOOK HIM ON A CRIMINAL TRESPASSING CHARGE. THE SACRAMENTO COUNTY SHERIFF\u2019S OFFICE SAYS IT ASKED PROBATION OFFICIALS TO PLACE A PROBATION VIOLATION. HOLD ON, MASON, BECAUSE HE\u2019S ON FELONY PROBATION. BUT THAT REQUEST, WAS INITIALLY DENIED. MASON WAS THEN RELEASED WITHIN A COUPLE OF HOURS. HOURS LATER, THOUGH, DEPUTIES RESPONDED TO ANOTHER TRESPASSING CALL INVOLVING MASON NEAR FAIR OAKS BOULEVARD AND SAN LUCAS, WAY LESS THAN HALF A MILE FROM THE LOCATION OF THE FIRST ARREST. NOW, SOME OF MY NOTES HERE SHOW US THAT THIS TIME A PROBATION VIOLATION WAS APPROVED AND MASON WAS TAKEN INTO CUSTODY IN COURT TODAY, THE JUDGE SAID MASON\u2019S PROBATION PROBATION IS REVOKED. OUR WORLD IS IS A DANGEROUS PLACE AT TIMES, RIGHT? AND WE HAVE TO REALLY BE HYPER VIGILANT OF WHAT WE DO AND WHERE WE ARE AND OUR SURROUNDINGS. AND IT\u2019S UNFORTUNATE, BUT THAT\u2019S REALITY RIGHT NOW. THAT\u2019S WHAT WE\u2019RE HOPING TO TAKE SITUATIONS LIKE THIS AND LEARN FROM THEM, PREVENT IT IN THE FUTURE. There was a major delay in court today. KCRA reporter Anahita Jafary waited for nearly two hours until Brian Mattson was brought out. From there chaos erupted as Mattson began shouting and cursing. Mattson asked what the violation was for and to have “some paperwork.” Mattson was first seen Thursday night on Ring camera footage on La Sierra Drive in Arden Park, repeatedly making stabbing motions with a knife in front of homes. Deputies said no one was hurt, but neighbors expressed concern for their safety. \u201cI hope that it’s a reflection of what someone could do in public. We saw what it could be done and obviously that’s a threat to us, into into the general public and, you know, whoever you may be and so, it’s unfortunate,\u201d said Michael Deauville, a neighbor in Arden Park. Deputies arrested Mattson Saturday morning but said they could only book him on a criminal trespassing charge. The Sacramento County Sheriff\u2019s Office requested probation officials place a probation violation hold on Mattson, who is on felony probation, but the request was initially denied. Mattson was released within hours. \u201cI really wanted to just be down here to one, learn a little bit how the system works. So instead of just, you know, being upset on our couches when when he got released so fast, be educated in a little more and I think it starts with, you know, being here,\u201d Deauville said. Hours later, deputies responded to another trespassing call involving Mattson near Fair Oaks Boulevard and San Lucas Way, less than half a mile from the location of the first arrest. This time, a probation violation hold was approved, and Mattson was taken back into custody. In court Monday, the judge revoked Mattson\u2019s probation.
