Pete Yorn moved to Los Angeles almost exactly 30 years ago.<\/p>\n

\u201cI remember it was May 16, 1996 \u2014 maybe three weeks after I graduated from Syracuse,\u201d says the singer and songwriter known for his smart, tender folk-rock stylings. \u201cWhich means I\u2019ve lived here longer than anywhere else. But when people ask where I\u2019m from, I still say I\u2019m from New Jersey.\u201d He laughs. \u201cI guess I identify very strongly with my upbringing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jersey pride notwithstanding, Yorn\u2019s 2001 debut album, \u201cMusicforthemorningafter,\u201d is suffused with his experiences as a young transplant moving and shaking in a busy L.A. social scene he compares now to Doug Liman\u2019s classic \u201cSwingers\u201d movie \u2014 \u201cat least if you take away the swing dancing,\u201d he says. \u201cBut the driving around and the going to parties \u2014 it was all the same stuff.\u201d (Yorn\u2019s older brothers, Kevin and Rick, are both prominent players in the entertainment business.)<\/p>\n

The singer, who\u2019s 51, is on the road this year performing \u201cMusicforthemorningafter\u201d in its entirety to mark the LP\u2019s 25th anniversary; he\u2019s also playing songs from throughout the rest of his career, including a 2009 duo record he made with his friend Scarlett Johansson. On July 24, he\u2019ll release his 12th studio album, \u201cAll the Beauty.\u201d Here, he breaks down his routine for a Sunday in his adopted hometown with his wife, jewelry designer Beth Kaltman, and their 10-year-old daughter.<\/p>\n

7 a.m. Rise and dine<\/p>\n

I\u2019m like a 6:45 or 7 wake up just because I\u2019m used to driving my daughter to school every day. I like to eat right away, and I eat the same two things every day: either yogurt with frozen berries, or there\u2019s this overnight oats called Mush. The blueberry Mush \u2014 I can\u2019t get enough of it. That\u2019s what I eat before my shows too. I\u2019ll go to a venue and the people are like, \u201cWhat would you like for dinner? We have this beautiful menu,\u201d and I\u2019m like, \u201cI\u2019ll just have the Mush.\u201d<\/p>\n

10 a.m. Horsing around<\/p>\n

Sunday is usually a day for something with my daughter. She\u2019s taken a love to horseback riding \u2014 she\u2019s much braver than I am \u2014 so I\u2019ll drive her out to this barn near Bell Canyon, which my wife told me is actually in Ventura County. I said, \u201cNo way \u2014 Ventura County is way up there.\u201d And sure enough, there\u2019s this southern tip of Ventura that\u2019s like 25 minutes from my house up the 101. Anyway, I\u2019ll go and I\u2019ll watch her ride the horse. I\u2019ll be honest \u2014 I\u2019m very nervous every time. But my wife grew up horseback riding, and my daughter, she just loves it. She can be very fickle, but this is one thing that\u2019s stuck.<\/p>\n

Now, I should say: If it\u2019s NFL season, I can\u2019t skip football. I\u2019m a huge Raiders fan \u2014 it\u2019s terrible. So if there\u2019s an important game, I\u2019ll have my Sunday Ticket on my phone and peek at what\u2019s going on. But that\u2019s fine \u2014 it\u2019s understood.<\/p>\n

12 p.m. Retail therapy<\/p>\n

After the horse, we might go this place in Van Nuys called Iceland. It\u2019s ironic because my wife, her dream trip is to go to Iceland the country, and the closest we\u2019re getting to that right now is an ice-skating rink. Or I love going to the Fashion Square mall [in Sherman Oaks] \u2014 I don\u2019t know if it\u2019s a remnant of growing up in New Jersey or it just gives me the nostalgic feeling of being with my parents at the mall. I don\u2019t even have to buy anything. I mean, I might end up getting roped into buying something \u2014 not a Labubu because that\u2019s over but some sort of kawaii animal stuffy. I just like that the mall still exists in a time when it\u2019s so easy for everyone to buy everything on their phone. My daughter was like, \u201cWhoa, you can go in and touch things?\u201d<\/p>\n

3 p.m. Guilty pleasure<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s a naughty one: There\u2019s a little bakery right off Ventura Boulevard called Schazti\u2019s, and they have this chocolate banana pudding that is ridiculous. It comes in a paper cup.<\/p>\n

6 p.m. Time to dine<\/p>\n

If it\u2019s Football Night in America, my wife and daughter would order Japanese or Chinese or Thai. They\u2019d probably order that every day if they had their way \u2014 they\u2019re obsessed. Sometimes I\u2019ll just eat a bowl of cereal and call it a night. If there\u2019s no game, a cool place to go that\u2019s been there forever is the Smoke House in Burbank. I\u2019d always seen it but had never been until a few months ago. Just a classic, old-school place \u2014 steak is great.<\/p>\n

10 p.m. Slow for show<\/p>\n

I\u2019m early to bed because I know I\u2019m gonna be up early to drive my daughter to school, which is my favorite thing when I\u2019m home. I don\u2019t want to miss it. I\u2019m very conscious of how fast she\u2019s growing up, and I know me \u2014 I\u2019ll be sad when it\u2019s over. We might watch a show or a movie but I\u2019ll feel my eyes getting heavy after like 10 minutes.
