{"id":311638,"date":"2026-05-12T07:21:22","date_gmt":"2026-05-12T07:21:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/311638\/"},"modified":"2026-05-12T07:21:22","modified_gmt":"2026-05-12T07:21:22","slug":"groom-will-spend-decades-in-prison-for-killing-groomsman-on-his-wedding-night","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/311638\/","title":{"rendered":"Groom will spend decades in prison for killing groomsman on his wedding night"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>FLINT, Mich. &#8211; A Flint man will spend at least 30 years in prison after killing his own groomsman with an SUV on his wedding day.<\/p>\n<p>James Shirah was sentenced Monday with three felony charges: second degree murder, operating with a suspended license causing death and failure to stop at a scene of an accident when at fault resulting in death.<\/p>\n<p>On Aug. 30, 2024, Flint police responded to a pedestrian injury crash in the 1400 block of East Hamilton. When they arrived, 29-year-old Terry Lewis Taylor Jr.  was found to have severe injuries and was taken to the hospital, where he later was pronounced dead.<\/p>\n<p>RELATED STORY: <a href=\"https:\/\/midmichigannow.com\/news\/local\/groom-charged-with-second-degree-murder-after-hitting-groomsman-with-suv\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Groom charged with second-degree murder after groomsman hit with SUV<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Earlier that day, Shirah and Savanah Collier were married and the celebration moved to a house.<\/p>\n<p>According to police, the victim had attended the wedding as a groomsman. Afterward, he was involved in an argument, which led to him being intentionally struck by a large SUV.<\/p>\n<p>That SUV was being driven by the groom, according to police.<\/p>\n<p>In April, Shirah pleaded no contest to second-degree murder and other offenses.
