A 60-year-old\u00a0 Pontiac man was killed late Sunday after being struck by two SUVs and his body dragged approximately a half mile \u2014 and both drivers fled the scene, officials said.<\/p>\n
Investigators with the Oakland County Sheriff\u2019s Office are seeking the public\u2019s help in identifying the two drivers involved in the crash, which happened at approximately 11:40 p.m. on Featherstone Street at the Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard intersection. The man\u2019s body was found in the middle of Cameron Avenue just north of Featherstone Street, at the end of a blood-stained drag mark that began at the Featherstone-Martin Luther King Jr. intersection, the sheriff\u2019s office said.<\/p>\n
Investigators determined the victim was crossing Featherstone Street at the crosswalk when he was struck by an SUV; the driver appeared to pull off to the side of the road but didn\u2019t report the crash, the sheriff\u2019s office said. The man was then struck by another SUV, which continued east on Featherstone. That driver didn\u2019t render aid or report the crash, the sheriff\u2019s office said.<\/p>\n
The man was pronounced dead at the scene.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is hard to fathom that a person would strike another human being with a car and drive off leaving them to die,\u201d Sheriff Michael Bouchard stated in a news release. \u201c\u201cWe would greatly appreciate the public\u2019s help with any information that could identify the individual(s) involved. A reward is possible if it leads to the arrest and conviction of an individual.\u201d<\/p>\n

This was the first of two reported\u00a0 pedestrian fatalities in Oakland County in less than 24 hours. The other occurred<\/a> at approximately 8:20 a.m. Monday in Birmingham when a 60-year-old Beverly Hills man was struck and killed by a vehicle while he was crossing 14 Mile Road near Bates Street \u2014 an area without marked crosswalks, police said.<\/p>\n A preliminary investigation indicates an 86-year-old Beverly Hills woman was driving northbound on Bates Street and attempting to turn left onto 14 Mile Road when she struck the pedestrian, police said. The South Oakland County Crash Investigation Team \u2014 of which the Birmingham Police Department is a member \u2014 was called in to assist with the investigation.
