The verdict came just a week after a jury determined that Fahim was legally sane at the time of the killings.<\/a> Fahim had initially blamed the murders on his schizophrenia and voices in his head telling him to kill the victims, The Register reported.<\/p>\n On April 19, 2022, Anaheim police responded to an assault at Stadium House apartments<\/a> on the 2100 block of Katella Avenue, near State College Boulevard, around 6:50 a.m.<\/p>\n Ramy Fahim, 30, pleaded guilty to two counts of murder in the ambush and stabbing deaths of two Chapman University alumni. The victims were pronounced dead at the scene and Fahim was hospitalized with minor injuries before he was later arrested on suspicion of murder.<\/p>\n Fahim and one of the victims, Cuomo, were coworkers at a wealth-management firm<\/a> in Newport Beach.<\/p>\n The second victim, Bahm, was Cuomo\u2019s roommate and he did not have any connection to Fahim, authorities said. Cuomo and Bahm were roommates who graduated from Chapman University less than a year before the fatal stabbings.<\/p>\n Fahim, who was diagnosed with schizophrenia in college, had earned degrees from USC and Columbia. His mother, Nabila Makram, had formerly served as a minister with the Egyptian government.<\/p>\n In 2021, his mother persuaded a friend who was one of the owners of Pence Wealth Management to give Fahim a job. There, he met Cuomo, a marketing and media assistant who was responsible for giving him assignments. While working together, Fahim became resentful of Cuomo and felt he was micromanaging him, according to testimony presented at trial.<\/p>\n Some coworkers later raised concerns about Fahim\u2019s reportedly erratic behavior and poor hygiene. They had failed to convince the firm\u2019s leaders to fire him.<\/p>\n Investigators later found notes on Fahim\u2019s computer that discussed how serial killers choose their victims and places where a body could be buried. At least one message sent to his mother had mentioned killing Cuomo, the Register reported.<\/a><\/p>\n On April 18, 2022, Fahim gained entry to the Anaheim apartment complex where the victims lived and spent 10 hours there hiding out and waiting. As Cuomo left for work around 6 a.m. the next morning, Fahim ambushed him and stabbed him to death.<\/p>\n Cuomo\u2019s roommate, Bahm, was inside the apartment. He locked himself in the bathroom and called 911, however Fahim was able to breach the door and fatally stab him.<\/p>\n Both victims were stabbed more than 40 times with what a prosecutor described as a \u201chunting dagger,\u201d the Register reported.<\/p>\n Fahim did not flee the scene and was taken into custody when police arrived.<\/p>\n Prosecutors said that Fahim had originally planned to kill Cuomo, cut his head off and bury it, while leaving the body in a dumpster. His plan was allegedly ruined after Bahm had successfully called the police.<\/p>\n Fahim was charged with the victim<\/a>s<\/a>\u2019 deaths<\/a> and on April 7, 2026, he pleaded guilty to two counts of murder<\/a> with special-circumstances enhancements for lying in wait and committing a murder to avoid arrest.<\/p>\n On May 13, he was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.<\/p>\n He offered an apology to the victim\u2019s family members as he listened to their impact statements in court.<\/p>\n \u201cI feel bad for what I did,\u201d he said. \u201cI wish I could go back and change it.\u201d<\/p>\n His attorney had initially asked for a lesser sentence, claiming there was enough evidence that Fahim suffered from mental health issues. However, the judge rejected the notion and said that the evidence shown at trial revealed sophisticated planning.<\/p>\n \u201cThere is no doubt in the court\u2019s mind this was a sophisticated, planned event, not by a crazed madman,\u201d the judge said. \u201cThis case warrants the most extreme punishment under the law.
