Mason Miller<\/a> was asked to deliver a four-out save to secure a 2-0 win for the San Deigo Padres over the Seattle Mariners at T-Mobile Park on Friday. He was eventually able to get four outs and seal the win<\/a> for the Padres, but the Mariners did not make it easy. Miller was able to get out of a bases loaded jam in the eighth inning with a strikeout of Connor Joe<\/a> on a knee-buckling slider. Miller returned to the mound in the bottom of the ninth inning and walked the leadoff batter, recorded a strikeout and then allowed a single to put runners at first and second base. Miller then recorded back-to-back strikeouts to preserve the 2-0 win<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Randy Vasquez started the game for the Padres and had a stellar six innings without allowing a run. He completed his start after the sixth with no walks allowed and three strikeouts. Vasquez allowed just four hits in the game. Adrian Morejon pitched a scoreless seventh, followed by Jason Adam<\/a> who was able to get two outs in the eighth, but allowed a hit and a walk, which prompted manager Craig Stammen<\/a> to turn to Miller for the four-out save.<\/p>\n

The San Diego<\/a> offense did enough to get the win, but it was not much. The top of the order, Jackson Merrill<\/a>, Fernando Tatis Jr. and Manny Machado<\/a> were 0-for-16 with four strikeouts, three of which were from Merrill against Seattle starter Emerson Hancock<\/a>. Gavin Sheets<\/a>, Xander Bogaerts, Miguel Andujar<\/a> and Ramon Laureano each had two hits in the game. Sheets and Andujar each scored a run, while Andujar and Sung-Mun Song each had an RBI.<\/p>\n

The Padres will look to take the second game of the series today at 4:15 p.m.<\/p>\n
