WIND-WHIPPED-WEEKEND<\/p>\n

The winds were really going all weekend long as a result of a North Pacific area of low pressure swinging through the Great Basin. Strong high pressure firmly entrenched west of California fed a steep pressure gradient into the low pressure deepening over Nevada and Utah. Winds flow from high to low, and that is the reason for the west to northwesterlies across Kern County. Some isolated mountain pass locations peaked in the 70 to 80 mph territory, with Bird Springs Pass clocking a gust to 83 mph. Mojave climbed to 69 mph before the weather instrumentation at that airport went offline Saturday afternoon.<\/p>\n

WARMER ONCE AGAIN<\/p>\n

Monday isn’t looking that much warmer than Sunday across our area. Afternoon highs could stay in the low to mid 80s across the South Valley, in the mid to upper 60s for the mountains, in the 70s within the Kern River Valley, and possibly just shy of 80 for even some of our desert towns. However, atmospheric ridging is expected to build back into the area and that will open the door to another round of late spring warmth. 90s are likely starting around midweek, and those temperatures may stay up there right on into the next weekend.<\/p>\n

STILL HIGH AND DRY<\/p>\n

High pressure means sunny skies and dry weather, something very common for this time of year around here. Occasionally, a deep trough or even a cut-off low can bring some weather variety back into the mix, but so far we’re not seeing a consistent enough signal to suggest that scenario just yet.<\/p>\n
