{"id":322499,"date":"2026-05-19T07:36:08","date_gmt":"2026-05-19T07:36:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/322499\/"},"modified":"2026-05-19T07:36:08","modified_gmt":"2026-05-19T07:36:08","slug":"man-killed-in-fresno-highway-41-crash-child-in-critical-condition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/322499\/","title":{"rendered":"Man killed in Fresno Highway 41 crash, child in critical condition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Fresno County Coroner\u2019s Office on Monday identified the Selma man <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fresnobee.com\/news\/local\/article315789805.html\">killed in a collision on Highway<\/a> in Fresno on Sunday as 31-year-old Carlos Sandoval.<\/p>\n<p>The California Highway Patrol responded to the crash at 2:25 a.m. on southbound Highway 41, near Highway 180. Reports indicated that Sandoval was driving a Toyota Camry south on 41 when, for reasons still under investigation, the vehicle stopped in the No. 2 lane.<\/p>\n<p>CHP then said a 33-year-old Fresno woman driving a Kia Optima south in the same lane crashed into the rear of the Toyota.<\/p>\n<p>The impact caused both vehicles to spin out of control before coming to rest in the far right and far left lanes of the highway.<\/p>\n<p>CHP said a 3-year-old child riding in the Kia was restrained with a seat belt but was not secured in a child safety seat.<\/p>\n<p>CHP said the child suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital.<\/p>\n<p>In an update Monday, CHP spokesperson Mike Salas said the child was in critical condition and that a passenger in the Kia had major injuries, while the driver had minor injuries.<\/p>\n<p>Sandoval died at the hospital.<\/p>\n<p>CHP said alcohol impairment is suspected to have been a factor for the Toyota driver, pending toxicology results.<\/p>\n<p>        Related Stories from  Fresno Bee<\/p>\n<p>                <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fresnobee.com\/profile\/218450935\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><br \/>\n                        <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"author-thumb\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/1779176168_25_Anthony Galaviz headshot.jpg\" width=\"400\" height=\"400\" alt=\"Profile Image of Anthony Galaviz\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><br \/>\n                    <\/a><\/p>\n<p>                <a class=\"author-name\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fresnobee.com\/profile\/218450935\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Anthony Galaviz<\/a><\/p>\n<p>                    The Fresno Bee<\/p>\n<p>            Anthony Galaviz writes about sports for The Fresno Bee.
