HUNT VALLEY, Md. (TNND) \u2014 Senator John Fetterman\u2019s chief of staff reportedly resigned on Wednesday, becoming the third top aide in as many years to quit.<\/p>\n
Cabelle St. John, who assumed her role last summer, will officially exit Fetterman\u2019s office in the coming weeks, according to Axios<\/a>. She took over for Krysta Sinclair Juris, who replaced the senator\u2019s first chief of staff.<\/p>\n The National News Desk requested comment from Fetterman\u2019s office but hasn\u2019t received a response.<\/p>\n It\u2019s unclear exactly why St. John would leave, but some of her colleagues have previously expressed concern and frustration about the senator. A group of them told <\/a>New York magazine last year his behavior had become erratic and that his shift to the right was hard to understand. Fetterman, who was elected as a progressive in 2022, has criticized his party and aligned himself with some Republican policy stances.<\/p>\n \u201cPart of the tragedy here is that this is a man who could be leading Democrats out of the wilderness,\u201d Adam Jentleson, the senator\u2019s first chief of staff, told the magazine. \u201cBut I also think he\u2019s struggling in a way that shouldn\u2019t be hidden from the public.\u201d<\/p>\n Fetterman reportedly lost the trust of some of his aides, who were concerned with his mental health and shocked by his policy shifts. Jentleson, according to the report, said in a 2024 email to the Walter Reed hospital, which was treating Fetterman for clinical depression, that the senator was showing symptoms of delusion, had \u201cconspiratorial thinking\u201d and \u201chigh highs and low lows.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI think John is on a bad trajectory and I\u2019m really worried about him,\u201d Jentleson wrote.<\/p>\n Fetterman dismissed the report as a \u201chit piece\u201d driven by \u201cdisgruntled\u201d associates.<\/p>\n \u201cIf you\u2019re really concerned about someone, you could say, \u2018Hey, let\u2019s sit down. Can we talk?\u2019\u201d the senator argued last year. \u201cIt\u2019s not like going to the media.\u201d<\/p>\n Fetterman has also insisted <\/a>that his policy beliefs have remained consistent, even though national Republicans, including President Donald Trump, have encouraged him to switch parties. The senator’s firm support for Israel, his endorsement of Trump\u2019s ballroom and frequent criticism <\/a>of his Democratic colleagues have led onlookers to speculate Fetterman\u2019s place in the party.<\/p>\n \u201cI would just say I\u2019d be very surprised if he ran in the Democratic primary for the U.S. Senate,\u201d Representative Brendan Boyle, a Pennsylvania Democrat, told Punchbowl News<\/a> earlier this spring about Fetterman\u2019s potential reelection campaign.<\/p>\n The senator would likely face a challenging primary environment in 2028. Quinnipiac University found in a poll <\/a>conducted in February that less than a quarter of Democratic voters approved of his job performance.<\/p>\n
