(FOX26)  \u2014 The Fresno City Council has approved plans for a new Costco location in Northwest Fresno with a unanimous 5-0 vote.<\/p>\n<p>The council voted Thursday to move forward with the proposed Costco Commercial Center, which will be built on 22.4 acres of vacant land near Herndon Avenue and Riverside Drive. <\/p>\n<p>The new development will replace the current Shaw Avenue Costco location, which first opened in 1985.<\/p>\n<p>[RELATED] <a href=\"https:\/\/kmph.com\/news\/local\/nw-fresno-costco-project-moves-forward-to-city-council-after-commission-review\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">NW Fresno Costco project moves forward to City Council after commission review<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Mayor Jerry Dyer praised the decision, calling the project a major investment in the community.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI applaud the Fresno City Council\u2019s decision to approve the Costco project,\u201d Mayor Dyer said in a statement. <\/p>\n<p>This has been a highly anticipated development in our community, and we look forward to seeing the new and improved Costco move forward.<\/p>\n<p>City officials say the project is expected to generate up to $15 million in tax revenue. <\/p>\n<p>Plans for the new store include a larger building footprint, expanded parking, additional fueling stations, and a car wash.<\/p>\n<p>The current Shaw Avenue location has served Fresno shoppers for more than 40 years, but city leaders say the new site will better accommodate the area\u2019s continued growth and increasing demand.<\/p>\n<p>Renderings for the proposed Northwest Fresno Costco project are available through the City of Fresno project page.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"FRESNO, Calif.
