{"id":328054,"date":"2026-05-22T16:58:08","date_gmt":"2026-05-22T16:58:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/328054\/"},"modified":"2026-05-22T16:58:08","modified_gmt":"2026-05-22T16:58:08","slug":"estee-lauder-and-perfume-maker-puig-have-ended-merger-talks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/328054\/","title":{"rendered":"Estee Lauder and perfume maker Puig have ended merger talks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By MICHELLE CHAPMAN, AP Business Writer<\/p>\n<p>Estee Lauder and perfume maker Puig have ended merger talks that would have potentially put brands like MAC, Clinique, Charlotte Tilbury and Jean Paul Gaultier under one roof.<\/p>\n<p>Estee Lauder Cos. <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/estee-lauder-puig-clinique-tilbury-f2a6b2c08d71e57bc1aaf2f6f3bf354e\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">confirmed<\/a> the discussions in March but said at the time that no agreement had been reached with the century-old Spanish company.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are grateful for the conversations we have had with Puig,\u201d Estee Lauder CEO St\u00e9phane de La Faverie said in a prepared statement late Thursday. \u201cToday, we are reiterating our confidence in the power of our incredible brands, our talented teams, and our strength as a standalone company.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The New York-based company said in February 2025 that it could possibly <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/estee-lauder-job-cuts-ebe8c697c223fb6cd022c96c7338b856\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">cut<\/a> as many as 7,000 jobs by fiscal 2026, more than 11% of its workforce. De La Faverie said at the time that Estee Lauder was transforming its operating model to be \u201cleaner, faster, and more agile.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Puig oversees makeup, skin care and fragrance brands like Nina Ricci, Jean Paul Gaultier and Dr. Barbara Sturm.
