THIS YEAR’S THEME IS LEGACY, AND IT CELEBRATES A FULL DECADE OF BRINGING ASIAN PACIFIC AMERICAN STORIES TO CAPITAL CITY AUDIENCES. JOINING ME NOW, WILLIAM GAO AND RAJAN GIL, THANKS FOR COMING IN TODAY. WE APPRECIATE IT. THANKS FOR HAVING US, SOPHIA. GREAT LOCATION TO HOLD THIS NUMBER ONE. AND THEN TEN YEARS, THAT’S A BIG THAT’S A GOOD MILESTONE. IT IS. YES. WE’RE SO EXCITED. THIS TEN YEAR LINEUP, I THINK IS OUR BEST SO FAR. WE’VE GOT A LOCAL FILMMAKERS, WE’VE GOT DOCUMENTARIES, WE’VE GOT FEATURE FILMS. AND IT’S JUST A WONDERFUL WAY TO PLATFORM ASIAN AMERICAN PACIFIC FILMMAKERS. ARE THE FILMS A VARIETY OF LENGTHS TO. YES, YES. WE’VE GOT SHORT FILM PROGRAMS. WE’VE GOT A FEATURE LENGTH DOCUMENTARIES. WE’VE GOT A FEATURE LENGTH FILMS AS WELL. AND SO WE HAVE THEM BROKEN DOWN INTO SIX PROGRAMS. AND SO WHEN PEOPLE BUY A TICKET, THEY GET A PROGRAM THAT HAS MULTIPLE FILMS, SOMETIMES SHORT FILMS, COUPLED WITH LONGER PIECES, WHICH IS KIND OF NICE BECAUSE IF YOU HAVEN’T BEEN TO A FILM FESTIVAL, LIKE, YOU KNOW, YOU’RE NOT GOING TO MAYBE LOVE EVERYTHING, BUT YOU GET TO SAMPLE A LITTLE. EXACTLY. YES. I MEAN, THE OTHER FUN THING ABOUT FESTIVAL IS THAT THEY GET TO COME AND WATCH THE FILMS, BUT THEY ALSO GET EXACTLY GET, GET PRODUCERS AND DIRECTORS TO COME OUT AND TALK. AND I THINK YOU’RE GOING TO GET A OF PEOPLE TALKING ABOUT YOUR FILM. OKAY, SO YOUR FILM IS CALLED HARVEST PARTY AT CAMP TWO. IT’S A SHORT DOCUMENTARY SET IN 1980S YUBA CITY. THIS IS A. YOU EXPLAIN IT BECAUSE I’VE NEVER HEARD ABOUT THIS STORY AND IT SOUNDS AWESOME. YEAH. I’D BE HAPPY TO. THANK YOU FOR THE QUESTION. IT’S SET IN 1980S YUBA CITY, AND IT’S ABOUT A GROUP OF PUNJABI FARM LABORERS WHO ARE UNABLE TO ATTEND THEIR LOCAL PROM IN YUBA CITY, CALIFORNIA. IN THE 80S WAS A LITTLE BIT CONSERVATIVE. THESE FOLKS, THEY WERE NEWCOMERS. THEY DIDN’T QUITE FEEL COMFORTABLE GOING TO THESE SOCIAL SITUATIONS. AND ON TOP OF THAT, THEIR HOME LIFE WAS ALSO FOCUSED ON ECONOMIC SURVIVAL. SO. SO WHAT DID THEY DO? WELL, NOT WANTING TO MISS OUT ON LIKE THAT CLASSIC AMERICAN TRADITION OF PARTYING IN HIGH SCHOOL. THEY DECIDE TO COME TOGETHER AND THROW A SECRET PARTY IN THE DARKNESS OF THE ORCHARDS WHERE THEY WOULD LABOR. AND HOW’D THAT TURN OUT? IT SPIRALED INTO THE BIGGEST RAGER THERE TOWN HAD EVER SEEN, AND IT BRINGS THE TOWN TOGETHER IN NEW WAYS. THAT’S AMAZING. AND SO I WOULD IMAGINE YOU PROBABLY HAVE SOME PEOPLE WHO’VE KIND OF COME BACK AND TALKED ABOUT THIS AND OH YEAH. OH YEAH. AND ACTUALLY, THE STORY ITSELF IS SOMETHING THAT’S VERY CLOSE TO MYSELF. THE CHARACTERS ARE MY FATHER, MY UNCLE. AND SO I GET TO RECOUNT THEIR CHILDHOOD. OH MY GOSH, I BET YOU HEARD THOSE STORIES AROUND THE DINNER TABLE GROWING UP ALL THE TIME. WELL, IT SOUNDS GREAT. AND OUR TICKETS ARE STILL AVAILABLE. THE STICKERS ARE AVAILABLE. THEY’RE $15 FOR PROGRAM AND SENIORS AND YOUTH, $5 TICKETS. SO IT SHOULD COME OUT AND WATCH TONIGHT. AND THERE’S ALL THE INFORMATION RIGHT THERE. IF YOU WANT TO GET SOME MORE INFORMATION, I HOPE YOU GUYS SELL IT OUT AND HAVE A GOOD LUCK. AND I HOPE YOUR DAD AND UNCLE

Sacramento Asian Pacific Film Festival kicks off at The Sofia

   Updated: 2:54 PM PDT May 22, 2026

  Editorial Standards ⓘ

The 10th annual Sacramento Asian Pacific Film Festival begins on Friday at The Sofia, featuring the theme “Legacy” to mark a decade of sharing Asian Pacific American stories with Capitol City audiences. This year’s festival celebrates its milestone anniversary and the diverse narratives it has brought to the community over the past 10 years.
