The Florida League of Cities, the united voice for Florida’s municipal governments, recently recognized Joseph McMullen, Oakland commissioner, with a 2026 Home Rule Hero Award.\u00a0<\/p>\n
According to a press release, the award stems from his hard work and advocacy efforts during the 2026 Legislative Session.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Home Rule Hero Award recipients are local government officials who consistently responded to the league\u2019s request to reach out to members of the Legislature and help give a local perspective on an issue.<\/p>\n
“Commissioner McMullen worked tirelessly throughout session to promote local voices making local choices by sharing insights, local data, and real-world examples that helped inform state lawmakers and elevate the voice of Florida\u2019s cities,” the press release said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Casey Cook, Florida League of Cities’ chief of legislative affairs, recognized him, among other leaders, for their determination in ensuring local voices were heard.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cBy engaging early, often and thoughtfully, they helped elevate the municipal perspective and reinforce the importance of local decision-making,” Cook said. “We sincerely appreciate their dedication and are proud to recognize their advocacy on behalf of Florida\u2019s cities.\u201d<\/p>\n
The town of Oakland is proud of McMullen for being recognized for his efforts, the press release added.\u00a0<\/p>\n
