MOORPARK \u2014 The Long Beach Wilson track and field team set a new CIF state record by running 3:33.83 in the girls 4\u00d7400 relay at the CIF-Southern Section Masters Meet at Moorpark High School on Saturday.<\/p>\n
The Bruins quartet of senior Brooke Blue, sophomore Brooklyn Fowler, junior Clara Adams and junior Saniah Varnando, won the race going away by nearly eight seconds.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt felt great and a little surreal,\u201d Wilson coach Shannon Fisher said after the race. \u201cI told them that I wanted them to end the day right and not just run to qualify for state. I wanted them to run something great now so that the pressure to run at state would not be too demanding. \u00a0But that was crazy and it\u2019s still a little hard to believe.\u201d<\/p>\n
Adams won the girls 400 in 51.98, which set a new CIF-SS record and qualified her as a top contender to win the state title in her signature event at the CIF State Track and Field Championship at Buchanan High in Clovis on May 29 and 30.<\/p>\n
Wilson finished 1st, 2nd, 4th, and 5th, respectively, in the 400. Adams, Varnado, Fowler, and Blue all individually qualified for the Bruins, who are looking to win the program\u2019s fourth straight state title.<\/p>\n
\u201cTheir confidence is pretty high going into the state championships after running that (4\u00d74) time,\u201d Fisher continued. \u201cWith a couple of them having run multiple races prior to the 4\u00d7400, it\u2019s pretty amazing they could turn around and run such a fast time, so I would say that it is definitely a confidence booster.\u201d<\/p>\n
In other girls races, St. Pius X-St. Matthias\u2019 Dylan Nelson qualified in the 100.<\/p>\n
Adams qualified in the 200.<\/p>\n
Wilson\u2019s Shirayah Lewis-Williams, Long Beach Poly\u2019s Laila Kirk and Wilson\u2019s Riley Jones qualified in the 800.<\/p>\n
Long Beach Poly\u2019s Kadence Bain and Varnado qualified in the 100 hurdles. Varnado qualified in the 300 hurdles.<\/p>\n
Long Beach Wilson and Long Beach Poly both qualified in the 4\u00d7100 and 4\u00d7400 relays.\u00a0Wilson also qualified in the 4\u00d7800 relay.<\/p>\n
Wilson\u2019s Journii Spencer qualified in the triple jump.<\/p>\n
Los Alamitos\u2019 Cassidy Nguyen qualified in the pole vault.<\/p>\n
On the boys side, Mayfair\u2019s Justin Hayes qualified in the 200.<\/p>\n
Long Beah Poly\u2019s Noah Smith qualified in the 400.<\/p>\n
Wilson\u2019s Jordan Kincherlow qualified in the 800.<\/p>\n
Long Beach Poly\u2019s Lynnox Newton and Armon Bly both qualified in the 110 hurdles.<\/p>\n
Long Beach Poly\u2019s 4\u00d7400 relay qualified. Wilson\u2019s 4\u00d7400 relay was disqualified.<\/p>\n
