(Photo by Gregory Bull\/AP?<\/p>\n<p>Ted Noffey won the $2 million <a href=\"https:\/\/breederscup.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Breeders\u2019 Cup<\/a> Juvenile by one length at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dmtc.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Del Mar<\/a> on Friday, stamping himself as the winter favorite for next year\u2019s Kentucky Derby.<\/p>\n<p>Ridden by John Velazquez, Ted Noffey ran 1 1\/16 miles in 1:42.25 and paid $3.60 to win for the second-shortest win payout in Juvenile history. It was Velazquez\u2019s 22nd Cup win, second all-time among jockeys.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was very confident,\u201d Velazquez said. \u201cHe made it very easy for me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Trainer\u00a0Todd Pletcher\u00a0earned his fifth Juvenile win, tying his mentor\u00a0D. Wayne Lukas, who died in June at age 89. Pletcher wore a tie given to him by Lukas\u2019 widow, Laurie.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe loved this event and it brings back some fond memories,\u201d Pletcher said. \u201cThat\u2019s what he was always dreaming about \u2014 juveniles and Derby horses.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ted Noffey is based on a misspelling of Spendthrift Farm general manager Ned Toffey. The Lexington, Kentucky, farm owns the 2-year-old colt. The victory increased his earnings to $1,658,763.<\/p>\n<p>Mr A.P., a 21-1 shot, rallied for second. Brant was another 1 1\/2 lengths back in third for trainer\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/video\/bob-baffert-returns-to-kentucky-derby-after-three-year-suspension-6afbbfcd074c4b52a0a8a15e6069c3fd\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Bob Baffert<\/a>, who owns a leading six wins in the Juvenile. Litmus Test, also trained by Baffert, was fourth.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was beat by a real good horse, and they ran really fast,\u201d Baffert said of Brant. \u201cI think he will move way up off this race.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Intrepido was fifth and Comport finished sixth in the smallest field in the race\u2019s 42-year history.<\/p>\n<p>The top five finishers earned qualifying points toward a spot in next year\u2019s 20-horse Kentucky Derby field.<\/p>\n<p>In Friday\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/breederscup.com\/races\/BCWC\/2025?tab=results\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">other races<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p>Balantina won the $1 million Juvenile Fillies Turf by 1 1\/4 lengths, giving trainer Donnacha O\u2019Brien his first Cup victory. He is the son of Irish trainer\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/epsom-derby-horse-racing-057ce1cd1dfa7bcc4eab571461b9ba2e\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Aidan O\u2019Brien<\/a>.
