A man is in jail after attempting to pick up a 12-year-old in Fresno on Thursday.

In an update Friday, police said officers responded to West Weldon Avenue and North Channing Way regarding a man trying to speak to the girl.

The girl told detectives she was walking to school when a man in a navy-blue van pulled up alongside her. The victim said 27-year-old Elias Panzo Temoxtle spoke to her in Spanish, and she did not understand him. He pointed at his cell phone and waved her over.

The girl walked over to the suspect, who handed her the phone. Police said Temoxtle entered his phone number into the girl’s phone and told her he would return at 4 p.m. to pick her up.

The victim told detectives Temoxtle blew her a kiss. The girl walked to school and reported the incident to school officials and the police.

Detectives arrived and searched the neighborhood for surveillance video and any witnesses. Detectives recovered the girl’s phone for forensic analysis.

Temoxtle was arrested by the Internet Crimes Against Children unit on felony charges, including distributing or showing pornography to a minor, annoying a child under 18, and false imprisonment.

Temoxtle was booked into the Fresno County Jail. His bail is set at $30,000. The investigation is ongoing.
