SMUD customers on the Time-of-Day plan will face higher electricity costs during 2026 summer peak hours, with charges more than doubling from 5-8 p.m. weekdays.<\/p>\n

SACRAMENTO, Calif \u2014 SMUD customers on the Time-of-Day rate plan will see higher electricity costs during their summer peak hours in 2026, especially on weekday evenings.<\/p>\n

Under SMUD’s pricing structure, customers pay different rates depending on the time of day and season. The highest rates apply from 5-8 p.m. on weekdays, when electricity demand is typically highest.<\/p>\n

From June 1 through Sept. 30, SMUD customers will pay 37.65 cents per kilowatt-hour during peak hours \u2014 more than double the summer off-peak rate of 15.50 cents per kilowatt-hour.<\/p>\n

Summer mid-peak pricing, which applies from noon to 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. to midnight, is set at 21.39 cents per kilowatt-hour. Outside the summer season, rates are lower.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Weekends and holidays remain off-peak all day.\u00a0<\/p>\n

SMUD said the Time-of-Day structure is designed to reduce electricity use during late afternoon and early evening hours, especially during the summer when energy demand increases.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Customers with registered plug-in electric vehicles may qualify for an additional discount. SMUD offers a 1.5-cent discount on electricity used between midnight and 6 a.m. for eligible EV owners whose vehicle registration matches their SMUD service address.<\/p>\n

The off-peak holiday schedule includes New Year\u2019s Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth National Independence Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Indigenous Peoples\u2019 Day\/Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.<\/p>\n
