This has led SHRM to develop an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shrm.org\/content\/dam\/en\/shrm\/advocacy\/shrm_the-path-forward_ai-legislative-framework.pdf\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">AI legislative framework<\/a> and advocate for a comprehensive national approach to workplace AI.<\/p>\n<p>In California\u2019s case, the EO continues its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shrm.org\/topics-tools\/employment-law-compliance\/new-developments-push-california-businesses-toward-ai-transparency\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">broader push<\/a> to shape AI policy at the state level. In recent years, the state has advanced legislation focused on AI transparency, safety standards, and workplace oversight.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>For employers and HR teams, the executive order may increase expectations around workforce planning, skills development, and responsible AI adoption. It also reflects a growing policy trend toward measuring how AI affects job quality, career mobility, and employee experience alongside productivity gains.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAI is transforming the workplace in real time, and California\u2019s executive order underscores the importance of preparing both workers and employers for that transition,\u201d said Emily M. Dickens, SHRM\u2019s chief administrative officer. \u201cSHRM supports a thoughtful, workforce-centered approach that expands AI literacy, strengthens upskilling and workforce development pathways, and helps organizations adopt emerging technologies responsibly.
