Ben Hensley<\/a><\/p>\nAmazon says Fresno County has seen over $4 billion investment from the e-commerce giant since 2010, part of what the company describes as a broader effort to strengthen the Valley\u2019s role in its local logistics network while simultaneously giving back to the community, many of which make up its over 4,000-member team at its over 850,000-square-feet of fulfillment center and operational space.<\/p>\n
\nThe figures come as Amazon recently released its 2025 Economic Impact Report, which said the company invested over $340 billion nationwide in 2025, including infrastructure and employee compensation, while contributing over $1.8 trillion to the U.S. economy since 2010.<\/p>\n
\nIn the report, Amazon said the investments reflect what it described as a broader commitment to communities where it operates.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cOur investments are helping create jobs, spur local economic growth and support communities across the country,\u201d the company said in the report.<\/p>\n
\nKathy Duong, Amazon\u2019s Northern California public policy manager, said the $4 billion investment locally reflects the company\u2019s long-term strategy in the region, a region she referred to as key in Amazon\u2019s work in the state.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cWhen you narrow down to Fresno County, Amazon has invested over $4 billion in Fresno County since 2010,\u201d Duong said. \u201cThe sustained benefit is just a mark of our long-term investment in the Central Valley\u2019s economic growth.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nAmazon describes the Valley as a key region underpinning its logistics operations.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cI like to say the Central Valley is the \u2018backbone\u2019 of our logistical network,\u201d Duong said. \u201cWe are just so invested in the community and the region.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nThe company said the Valley\u2019s location and infrastructure have made it an important part of Amazon\u2019s fulfillment system, helping move products throughout the entire Western U.S.<\/p>\n
\nAmazon said its broader California footprint has also expanded significantly, with the company investing over $240 billion in the state since 2010. Statewide, the company supports over 180,000 indirect jobs in industries including construction, logistics and professional services.<\/p>\n
\nCommunity partnerships and tax impact<\/p>\n
\nBeyond warehouse operations, Amazon says its investments generate broader economic benefits, also providing tax revenue to regions.<\/p>\n
\nDuong said items moving through Fresno\u2019s Amazon fulfillment center generate sales tax revenue locally because the facility serves as the point-of-sale purchase locations for all products moving through the center.<\/p>\n
\nAmazon\u2019s expansion in the Valley can be seen in the revenue generated by its fulfillment center, which has grown from $93.7 million in 2017 to $152.7 million in 2025.<\/p>\n
\nThe company also points to community partnerships as a large part of its local presence.<\/p>\n
\nAmazon partners with local organizations, including the Central California Food Bank, which partners with Amazon routinely in a variety of different ways.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cThe Central Valley has been welcoming to us,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\nPartnerships, Duong said, are, in fact, tailored to specific communities; rather than applying a one-size-fits-all approach, she said Amazon works with communities individually to identify where support is needed most.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cIt\u2019s based on the community pillars that we operate under,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\nWorkforce development<\/p>\n
\nIn addition to direct applicable community work, Amazon has also invested heavily into workforce development both for itself and for employees.<\/p>\n
\nDuong highlighted Amazon\u2019s Career Choice program, which prepays many educational expenses for employees pursuing higher education and training in high-demand career fields.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cCareer Choice \u2014 Amazon\u2019s signature benefit for employees\u2019 education \u2014 can help provide employees with assistance from day one for high-demand careers,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\nThe company\u2019s own workforce of over 4,000 employees also sees seasonal fluctuation, with events like Prime Day and Cyber Monday expanding the workforce with temporary and seasonal hiring.<\/p>\n
\nAmazon\u2019s 2025 report also highlighted workforce development as one of the company\u2019s major investment priorities nationally, citing employee education and career training programs as a key part of its long-term workforce strategy.<\/p>\n
\nIndependent sellers and local business criticism<\/p>\n
\nThe company also pushed back on criticism that large online retailers come at the expense of locally owned businesses, citing its partnership with local small businesses that benefit both parties.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cOver 60 percent of the items sold on Amazon come from independent sellers,\u201d Duong said. \u201cWe hear a lot of gratitude, because a lot of these mom-and-pop businesses don\u2019t know how to get onto e-commerce.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nAccording to Amazon, independent sellers average about $440,000 in annual sales through the platform, listing over 831 million items in California alone in 2025.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cWe actually are really proud to provide this resource to independent sellers,\u201d Duong said.<\/p>\n
