OBITUARY

Chloris Jean Skogstrom was born September 28, 1934, in tiny Ayrshire, Iowa, the second of Harry and Vivian Skogstrom’s five children. At a young age, she moved with her family to nearby Algona. She married her high school sweetheart, Jimmie Kennedy, on August 17, 1952. Their loving marriage lasted 72 years.

When Jimmie served in the Navy, they lived in Honolulu. After Jimmie’s discharge, the young couple settled in Anaheim. Chloris steadfastly supported Jimmie as he advanced through the ranks of the Anaheim Police Department. She was the devoted, loving, and supportive wife always by Jimmie’s side, that enabled him to be as successful as he was in his career.

Chloris was a stay-at-home mom and supported her children in school and sports activities. Later, she worked part-time as a bookkeeper and in the Yorba Linda City Clerk’s office.

Chloris was a faithful member of Anaheim United Methodist Church for more than 65 years. She was an active member of the women’s group. She knitted over 150 prayer shawls for those struggling through grief, illness, or disease. She was also an excellent cook and took great pleasure in feeding people.

In retirement, Chloris and Jimmie enjoyed reading, snow skiing, and staying at their cabin in Big Bear, revisiting Hawaii, spending time with friends, remaining active in church, enjoying grandchildren, and cherishing great-grandchildren. They moved into Walnut Village Retirement Community in 2010.

As Jimmie’s health and mobility declined in the last several years, Chloris remained as helpful and devoted to him as ever, loving and caring for him every day until he passed in April 2025.

Chloris passed away peacefully on April 3 with family members by her side. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Cliff Skogstrom, son-in-law Douglas Williams, and husband Jimmie. Chloris is survived by daughter Cynthia Williams of Parker, CO; son Craig (Jenny) Kennedy of Corona; son Steven (Mary) Kennedy of Indianapolis, IN; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
