Monitor fruiting pear and apple trees for codling\u00a0moth.\u00a0To control powdery mildew on grapevines, apply sulfur every\u00a014 days\u00a0until fruit\u00a0begins to taste sweet.\u00a0Do not treat if\u00a0temperature\u00a0exceeds 100\u00b0F.\u00a0When using herbicides for weed control, spray on a calm day and protect nearby\u00a0plants by\u00a0shielding\u00a0with\u00a0a large piece of cardboard.\u00a0Pinch back annuals and perennials to encourage sturdy growth.\u00a0Remove spent lilac flower clusters just above points where leaf buds are\u00a0forming.\u00a0Lightly prune lavender. Do not prune into the woody parts.\u00a0Yellow leaves may be a sign of chlorosis, which can be treated with chelated iron.\u00a0Spring planting season is over. Keep recent plantings well-watered.\u00a0Postpone planting non-essential annual flowers, vegetables, and container plants\u00a0until fall.\u00a0Annuals and perennials: cosmos, dahlia, foxglove (Digitalis), coneflower\u00a0(Echinacea), rockrose (Cistus).\u00a0Bulbs, corms, tubers: watsonia.\u00a0Trees, shrubs, vines:\u00a0chitalpa, clematis, escallonia, smoke tree (Cotinus).\u00a0Fruits and vegetables: nectarine, peach, plum.\u00a0Manage spider mites by rinsing dust from foliage.\u00a0To water hillsides, set emitters on the upper side of\u00a0slope.\u00a0Grafting can be performed on citrus and avocado trees now.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
