A 47-year-old Detroiter is facing felony charges in Oakland County for allegedly battering and strangling a woman described as his \u201con-again, off-again girlfriend\u201d \u2014 while threatening to kill her, officials said.<\/p>\n

Ricky Kahil McLaurin is charged with assault with intent to murder and domestic violence, third offense. According to the Oakland County Prosecutor\u2019s Office, the alleged victim contacted a family member for help, who then called police. McLaurin subsequently turned himself in at the Southfield police station.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis victim sought help, and that may have saved her life,\u201d Prosecutor Karen McDonald stated in a news release.\u00a0 \u201cWomen suffering domestic abuse are not alone. Resources and support are available to help victims escape abusive relationships.\u201d<\/p>\n

McLaurin is in the Oakland County Jail, with bond set at $100,000. If he posts bond, monitoring by electronic tether is required. He next court appearance is scheduled for a probable cause conference on June 11.<\/p>\n

Assault with intent to murder is punishable by up to life in prison. Domestic violence-third offense, carries a penalty of up to five years in prison and\/or a $5,000 fine.<\/p>\n
