A San Francisco public school <\/a>reportedly hosted a workshop on \u201cadult supremacy\u201d \u2014 a new woke trend labeling teachers and adults \u201coppressors\u201d that\u2019s quietly gaining traction in California.<\/p>\n

The confab, held at John O\u2019Connell High School during an \u201cEthnic Studies Everywhere\u201d weekend seminar in April, was titled \u201cYouth as Knowledge Producers: Challenging Adult Supremacy Through Ethnic Studies,\u201d according to an attendee who spoke with The Post.<\/p>\n

\u201cDue to systemic power dynamics inherently the relationship between students and educators is an oppressive one. Oppressor (educator) & oppressed (student),\u201d a presentation slide explained.<\/p>\n

The workshop was led by Jennifer Sanchez, a third-year ethnic studies educator in the Central Valley, and convened by Teachers 4 Social Justice, a nonprofit that aims to create \u201cempowering learning environments, more equitable access to resources and power, and realizing a just and caring culture,\u201d according to its website.<\/p>\n

Teachers 4 Social Justice was founded by local teacher activist Jeremiah Jeffries, who led an unpopular push to rename public schools<\/a> during the pandemic that was abandoned after sparking outrage from local parents.<\/p>\n

So-called adult supremacy \u201cconstructs adults as developed, mature, intelligent, and experienced, based solely on their age and ensures that adults control the resources and make the decisions in society,\u201d the presentation further explained.<\/p>\n

Success \u201cwithin the Western context\u201d is \u201cdemanding, overwhelming, and dehumanizing,\u201d the presentation claimed.<\/p>\n

Friends of Lowell Foundation, which advocates for academic merit at San Francisco schools<\/a>, compiled the \u201cadult supremacy\u201d slides.<\/p>\n

Another slide obtained by The Post cited the work of academic Jackson Matos, who is mentioned as connecting \u201cadultism\u201d to cultural imperialism, marginalization, exploitation, powerlessness and violence.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have knowledge and life experience, and it is our job as parents and teachers to impart information on the next generation, on our kids,\u201d one flabbergasted San Francisco parent, who asked not to be named, told The Post.<\/p>\n

\u201cGiven that a large percentage of students in the district do not meet grade level standards in ELA and math, our focus as a school district is clearly way off track,\u201d the parent said.<\/p>\n

Friends of Lowell Foundation has taken legal action surrounding the school district\u2019s controversial \u201cethnic studies\u201d curriculum, which was made a one-year requirement for high school freshman this year.<\/p>\n

The San Francisco teachers\u2019 group isn\u2019t the only organization blaming \u201cadultism\u201d for society\u2019s failures. <\/p>\n

Adam Fletcher is a consultant who counts California school boards and agencies among his clients. He\u2019s made \u201cadultism\u201d a centerpiece of equity training aimed at teachers.<\/p>\n

\u201cAdultism, as an idea, is bias towards adults,\u201d Fletcher said in an online seminar <\/a>held by TEACH Los Angeles, an educators\u2019 network funded through grants from the California Community College Chancellor\u2019s Office, per its YouTube page.<\/p>\n

Likewise, the Oakland Youth Commission announced last year a training for city employees about adultism, which is blamed for taking power away from kids, according to slides published online.<\/a><\/p>\n

The Santa Clara Behavioral Health Services Department sponsored an \u201canti-oppression training series\u201d that explores how \u201cageism and adultism\u201d fuel discrimination. <\/p>\n

\u201cParticipants consider how the myth of independence, rooted in settler colonial capitalism, contributes to the marginalization of youth & elders by diminishing agency, excluding perspectives, & reinforcing stereotypes in behavioral health practice,\u201d an invitation read<\/a>.<\/p>\n

San Francisco Unified School District didn\u2019t respond to a request for comment.<\/p>\n
