{"id":342797,"date":"2026-06-02T11:01:16","date_gmt":"2026-06-02T11:01:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/342797\/"},"modified":"2026-06-02T11:01:16","modified_gmt":"2026-06-02T11:01:16","slug":"motorcyclist-injured-in-memorial-day-hit-and-run-crash-dies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/342797\/","title":{"rendered":"Motorcyclist injured in Memorial Day hit-and-run crash dies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A motorcycle rider who was the victim of a hit-and-run crash on Memorial Day in Fresno has died.<\/p>\n<p>Fresno County Sheriff\u2019s Office spokesperson Tony Botti identified the victim as Richard Cortes, 50, of Fresno. He died in the hospital on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>According to a <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gofundme.com\/f\/support-richard-cortes-funeral-family\">GoFundMe<\/a> fundraiser, Cortes was on his way to visit his granddaughter when the crash occurred. His family says he sustained injuries to his head, neck and back.<\/p>\n<p>The crash happened near Olive and Rowell avenues around 8 p.m. on May 25, Fresno police said.<\/p>\n<p>The suspect, Yzamar Mendez Cortez, is accused of fleeing the scene before returning while officers were investigating.
