As the sun sets over South Pasadena, two distinct voices—one an award-winning storyteller and the other a seeker of Americana-noir, will bridge the gap between our quiet neighborhood streets and the wider, wilder world through the power of song.

Cindy Kalmenson arrives in South Pasadena with a growing mantel of accolades, including her recent victory at the 2025 Kerrville New Folk competition. Her ability to hold a room is rooted in a rare, spontaneous intimacy that invites the audience into her creative process.

Critics have frequently noted her stylistic parallels to icons like Sheryl Crow and Lucinda Williams. For local music lovers, this is a chance to see a songwriter at the peak of her craft, weaving narratives that feel both expansive and startlingly personal.

Traveling from the Gunditjmara country of Australia, Nigel Wearne brings a sharp contrast to the stage with his atmospheric blend of blues, jazz, and Americana-noir. His sound is heavily influenced by the raw, poetic sensibilities of Nick Cave and Tom Waits.

Wearne describes his work as music that “saunters after dark.” Expect a performance that examines human frailty and the cosmic mysteries of life, delivered with the technical prowess of a multi-instrumentalist who isn’t afraid to cut straight to the bone.

Event Details

The stage will be set at The Daily, located at 1119 Fair Oaks Avenue. The venue encourages a relaxed, neighborly atmosphere where attendees are welcome to bring their own favorite snacks and beverages to enjoy during the performances.

How to Join

Space for this intimate showcase is limited, and early RSVPs are strongly encouraged to ensure your spot.
