{"id":344100,"date":"2026-06-03T04:58:07","date_gmt":"2026-06-03T04:58:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/344100\/"},"modified":"2026-06-03T04:58:07","modified_gmt":"2026-06-03T04:58:07","slug":"2026-election-results-in-ca-44-d-nanette-diaz-barragan-and-r-genevieve-angel-face-off-daily-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/344100\/","title":{"rendered":"2026 Election Results: In CA-44, D-Nanette Diaz Barragan and R-Genevieve Angel face off \u2013 Daily News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Only two people appeared on the ballot for California\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/public.flourish.studio\/visualisation\/27751920\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">44th Congressional District<\/a> race during Tuesday\u2019s primary election \u2014 and both are moving on to face each other again in the November general election.<\/p>\n<p>When early tallies were announced by the Los Angeles County Registrar of Voters, around 9:15 p.m., Democratic Rep. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailybreeze.com\/2026\/05\/05\/nanette-barragan-ca-44-candidate-2026-primary-election-questionnaire\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nanette Barrag\u00e1n<\/a> held 74% of the vote while\u00a0healthcare executive <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailybreeze.com\/\/2026\/05\/05\/genevieve-angel-ca-44-candidate-2026-primary-election-questionnaire\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Genevieve Angel<\/a>, a Republican,\u00a0had 26%. Barrag\u00e1n is seeking her sixth term.<\/p>\n<p>LIVE ELECTION RESULTS: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailynews.com\/election-results\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">See the latest vote counts<\/a><\/p>\n<p>But regardless of what the final vote count will be, both candidates will face off again in November.<\/p>\n<p>In California, the top two candidates in a congressional race, regardless of party affiliation, advance to the runoff \u2014 even if there were only two people running in the primary and one receives a majority of the vote.<\/p>\n<p>The 44th Congressional District runs through parts of South Los Angeles, southeastern L.A. County and the Harbor Area. It includes communities such as Vernon, Huntington Park, Florence-Graham, South Gate, Lynwood, Paramount, Carson, Wilmington and San Pedro.<\/p>\n<p>This is a solidly blue district, where 54.63% of registered voters are Democrats and 15.11% are Republicans.
