{"id":344241,"date":"2026-06-03T06:37:31","date_gmt":"2026-06-03T06:37:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/344241\/"},"modified":"2026-06-03T06:37:31","modified_gmt":"2026-06-03T06:37:31","slug":"california-bank-hostage-situation-police-negotiate-with-man-in-bakersfield","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/344241\/","title":{"rendered":"California Bank Hostage Situation: Police Negotiate With Man In Bakersfield"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"Paragraph-module-scss-module__0ovlkG__blockParagraph\">Police are locked in negotiations with a man holding hostages inside a Chase bank branch in the city of Bakersfield, authorities said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-module-scss-module__0ovlkG__blockParagraph\">Officers responded to a call of a bomb threat at the bank building located at the corner of Chester Avenue and 17th Street at around 1 p.m. on Tuesday, and determined a man had barricaded himself inside &#8220;with several community members,&#8221; the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/city-of-bakersfield-agrees-to-22m-payout-in-2023-crash-case-involving-police-pursuit-11599430\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Bakersfield Police Department<\/a> said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-module-scss-module__0ovlkG__blockParagraph\">Through negotiations, two of the hostages were released and the rest are in &#8220;good health,&#8221; city police Sgt. Eric Celedon said. &#8220;We have every single resource at our disposal out here to bring this to the safest resolution possible,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-module-scss-module__0ovlkG__blockParagraph\">No injuries have been reported so far. Police have urged the public to stay out of the area as it remains a very active situation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-module-scss-module__0ovlkG__blockParagraph\">Bakersfield Police said the department&#8217;s crisis negotiation team was in contact with the suspect by telephone.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-module-scss-module__0ovlkG__blockParagraph\">Officers established a perimeter around the building and nearby businesses, authorities said.
