{"id":344715,"date":"2026-06-03T12:46:22","date_gmt":"2026-06-03T12:46:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/344715\/"},"modified":"2026-06-03T12:46:22","modified_gmt":"2026-06-03T12:46:22","slug":"sacramento-mans-alleged-arsenal-revealed-as-hes-charged-with-bringing-explosive-to-airport","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/344715\/","title":{"rendered":"Sacramento man&#8217;s alleged arsenal revealed as he&#8217;s charged with bringing explosive to airport"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Federal prosecutors have charged a Sacramento man after they say he may have been plotting to set off explosives on a flight over the weekend.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/04\/18\/us-news\/aussie-traveler-charged-after-wild-lax-meltdown-allegedly-attacks-tsa-agent-over-missing-passport\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">TSA officers <\/a>allegedly uncovered an explosive device, a phone set with a countdown timer and a cryptic message inside the man\u2019s carry-on luggage at Sacramento International Airport.<\/p>\n<p>According to the US Attorney\u2019s Office in Sacramento, 49-year-old Kimani Osayande Jones, also known as Jackson, was charged Tuesday with <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/04\/23\/us-news\/student-15-who-scrawled-swastika-at-long-island-school-had-explosives-at-home-paid-for-by-dad-cops\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">unlawfully possessing explosive materials<\/a> following the incident that unfolded around 9 p.m. Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>A cryptic message was found inside the man\u2019s carry-on luggage. Courtesy: Sacramento International Airport<\/p>\n<p>Authorities said Jones arrived at a TSA security checkpoint before a scheduled flight to Charlotte while wearing a scarf covering his face and blue latex gloves on his hands.<\/p>\n<p>During a search of his bag, TSA officers allegedly discovered an illegal M-type <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/05\/31\/us-news\/fireworks-explosion-on-nyc-street-blows-fingers-off-one-man-injures-two-others-cops\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">pyrotechnic explosive, a torch lighter<\/a>, a knife, scissors and scissor blades, an aerosol can and zip ties.<\/p>\n<p>Bomb technicians from the FBI and the Sacramento County Sheriff\u2019s Officer later tested and disposed of the explosive. <\/p>\n<p>Officials said the device contained powder and a fuse that were both \u201cviable and energetic,\u201d making it capable of causing significant damage.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe explosive device had the potential to cause injury and, if the explosive device had detonated next to a window on a pressurized aircraft flying above 10,000 feet, it had the potential to damage the aircraft and cause a possible loss of cabin pressure,\u201d the statement read.<\/p>\n<p>Investigators also reported finding five cell phones in Jones\u2019 possession.<\/p>\n<p>One phone allegedly had a 15-minute timer activated and ready to run, while another displayed an unidentified number alongside a message reading, \u201cwe will be awaiting your call.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Federal authorities said the discovery may have prevented a potentially catastrophic situation.<\/p>\n<p>Investigators also reported finding five cell phones in Jones\u2019 possession.
