{"id":345737,"date":"2026-06-04T01:15:10","date_gmt":"2026-06-04T01:15:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/345737\/"},"modified":"2026-06-04T01:15:10","modified_gmt":"2026-06-04T01:15:10","slug":"high-fresno-primary-turnout-expected-as-ballots-are-counted","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/345737\/","title":{"rendered":"High Fresno primary turnout expected as ballots are counted"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The turnout for Tuesday\u2019s primary election in Fresno County could be one of the highest in recent years, says the Fresno County clerk and registrar of voters.<\/p>\n<p>James Kus said voter participation Tuesday was 19.20%, but he expects that number could reach as high as 35%, a level not seen since 1998.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are looking at possibly one of the best gubernatorial primaries in years,\u201d Kus said Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>A large part of the reason is that more than 70,900 ballots remain uncounted, he said. Those ballots include mail-in votes, provisional ballots and conditional voter registration ballots.<\/p>\n<p>Kus estimated that the bulk, if not all, of those ballots will be tallied by 5 p.m. June 9.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNothing is over yet,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Candidates who receive a majority of the vote, 50% plus 1, will have won that race.
