Two people were found dead on San Francisco streets Wednesday morning within an hour of each other.<\/p>\n
At around 5:31 a.m. police officers responded to a collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian near Brannan and Seventh streets in SoMa and found a person lying on the ground.<\/p>\n
\u201cParamedics arrived on scene to render aid to the victim. Despite the lifesaving efforts of the emergency responders, the victim was declared deceased at the scene,\u201d read a statement from the police department.<\/p>\n
The driver involved in the collision remained on the scene and cooperated with the investigation, the department said.<\/p>\n
Nearly an hour later, at 6:23 a.m., police officers arrived at the area near Geneva Avenue and Mission Street in the Excelsior, where paramedics had responded to a person deceased in the street.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Police officers had not yet determined a cause of death for the person in the second incident. It is unclear if that person was struck by a car or not.<\/p>\n
The SoMa victim is the 11th \u00a0traffic-related fatality<\/a> in San Francisco so far this year, and the second within 10 days \u2014 a person was hit and killed<\/a> by a vehicle near 16th and Mission streets on May 25. All but one of those deaths have been pedestrians,\u00a0with one person riding a powered stand-up device.<\/p>\n \u201cOur hearts break for the victims and their loved ones,\u201d said Jodie Medeiros, executive director for Walk San Francisco, in a statement shared with Mission Local. \u201cPeople are dying simply walking in our city.\u201d<\/p>\n Officers are still on scene investigating.
