{"id":346754,"date":"2026-06-04T17:31:25","date_gmt":"2026-06-04T17:31:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/346754\/"},"modified":"2026-06-04T17:31:25","modified_gmt":"2026-06-04T17:31:25","slug":"how-fresno-county-budget-crunch-might-impact-you-town-hall-tonight","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/346754\/","title":{"rendered":"How Fresno County Budget Crunch Might Impact You: Town Hall Tonight"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Fresno County leaders will host an in-person town hall Thursday to explain critical changes to services such as safety, public health, Medi-Cal, and CalFresh as budget shortfalls hamstring programs.<\/p>\n<p>Fresno County Budget Town Hall<\/p>\n<p>When: Thursday, June 4, 5:30 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>Where: Clovis Transit Center, 785 3rd St.<\/p>\n<p>Officials also will take the opportunity to discuss a potential sales tax measure floated by supervisors earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p>County Administrative Officer Paul Nerland and Budget Director Paige Benavides will talk about how rising costs, slow revenue growth, and changes at the federal level will affect the 2026-27 budget.<\/p>\n<p><a data-no-instant=\"1\" href=\"https:\/\/gvwire.com\/contact\/\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" class=\"a2t-link\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"GVWire-Ad-Get-our-mobile-app-1280\u00d790-1\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/GVWire-Ad-Get-our-mobile-app-1280x90-1-1.jpg\" alt=\"\"   width=\"1280\" height=\"90\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Those services include public safety, emergency response, public and behavioral health, disaster preparedness, parks, animal services, community infrastructure, and agricultural and consumer protections.<\/p>\n<p>Possible County Sales Tax Measure<\/p>\n<p>Changes in <a href=\"https:\/\/gvwire.com\/2026\/03\/24\/medi-cal-cuts-could-stagger-fresno-county-budget-hiring-freezes-loom\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">federal policy regarding Medi-Cal and CalFresh<\/a> could leave the county on the hook for hundreds of millions of dollars more in the upcoming budget.<\/p>\n<p>In a March meeting, Joe Prado, Fresno County public health director, said at the high end, covering indigent care could add $241 million in unaccounted costs.<\/p>\n<p>Changes brought about by President Donald Trump\u2019s Big Beautiful Bill also left the county and state more on the hook for SNAP and CalFresh benefits.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year, supervisors discussed a possible sales tax measure to put on the ballot to bolster county revenues.
