(FOX 5\/KUSI) \u2014 Two pedestrians crossing State Route 78 were hit by a vehicle over the weekend in the Ramona area, resulting in one death and another serious injury.<\/p>\n<p>The incident occurred on Saturday around 9:20 p.m. on westbound on SR-78, just west of Seventh Street, the California Highway Patrol said in a news release Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities learned the pedestrians crossed in low-lighting and in the Toyota\u2019s path of travel when the driver of the Toyota, a 19-year-old man of Ramona, struck the 35-year-old woman and 42-year-old man.<\/p>\n<p>\t<a href=\"https:\/\/fox5sandiego.com\/news\/local-news\/san-diego-zoo-gorilla\/?ipid=promo-link-block1\" class=\"promo-link__link\" target=\"&quot;_blank&quot;\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><br \/>\n\t\tGorilla breaks glass panel at San Diego Zoo habitat\t<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The woman was pronounced dead at the scene while the 42-year-old man was taken to hospital with major injuries.<\/p>\n<p>The driver and passenger of the Toyota were not injured in the crash.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities believe driving under the influence may be a factor in the collision.<\/p>\n<p>Cpt. Monteagudo with CHP advises pedestrians to always use sidewalks and crosswalks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWalking in the roadway puts you at serious risk of injury or worse. Be alert, be seen and never assume drivers can see you,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"RAMONA, Calif.
