A California therapist is cartoonishly devoted to progressive race and gender orthodoxies despite their lack of grounding in science. Naturally, Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) has just reappointed him to an important medical board.<\/p>\n
John Sovec is a licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT) currently practicing in Altadena. Since 2019, he has served on California\u2019s Board of Behavioral Sciences, a state regulatory agency responsible<\/a> for licensing and examining LMFTs, licensed clinical social workers, licensed professional clinical counselors, and licensed educational psychologists and for the enforcement of those groups\u2019 professional standards.<\/p>\n Gov. Newsom\u2019s press release<\/a> makes note of Sovec\u2019s years of private practice as an LMFT, his prior experience as an adjunct professor of postmodern studies, and his party affiliation (\u201cSovec is a Democrat\u201d).<\/p>\n Unmentioned are Sovec\u2019s radical pronouncements on transgenderism, natal care, and \u201cwhiteness,\u201d declarations that ought to disqualify him from work overseeing evidence-based medical practitioners.<\/p>\n Among Sovec\u2019s professional activities is a series of education modules offered by the LGBTQ+ nonprofit OutCare Health. These modules provide striking evidence of Sovec\u2019s ideological commitment to wokeness.<\/p>\n In \u201cAffirming OB\/GYN Care for LGBTQ+ Patients \u2013 OutTalk<\/a>,\u201d for example, Sovec instructs participants to \u201cimagine how dysphoric it might be for a trans man to walk into an OB\/GYN clinic\u201d and \u201csee mostly females sitting there.\u201d He further laments that \u201cnatal care \u2026 is one of the most gendered things\u201d and that \u201chaving a baby is such a gendered social construct.\u201d<\/p>\n
