According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sfgate.com\/local\/article\/bart-clipper-outage-22288297.php\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">BART<\/a> spokesperson Chris Filippi,\u00a0riders aren\u2019t able to use the machines to add funds to their cards and can\u2019t use the machines to pay for parking, either.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople can use Tap and Ride (contactless bank card\/Apple Pay\/Google Pay) to pay for BART or add funds to a digital Clipper card via Apple Pay or Google Pay,\u201d\u00a0Filippi wrote\u00a0in an email to SFGATE. \u201cThose who park can use the BART app or pay for parking online.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He also said the outage has not affected train service so far.<\/p>\n<p>John Goodwin, assistant director of communications at the\u00a0Metropolitan Transportation Commission, said the issue is related to the migration from the legacy Clipper system to the next-generation Clipper system. \u201cThis interruption affected (some) ticket vending machines and other Clipper hardware devices in both the BART and Muni systems,\u201d Goodin wrote in an email to SFGATE. \u201cInterestingly, this problem did not affect all Clipper equipment in either the BART system or the Muni system.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Goodwin said the Clipper contractor, Cubic Transportation Systems, is currently bringing the affected machines back online in phases.<\/p>\n<p>Clipper had a <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/BayAreaClipper\/status\/2063403060144341127\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">planned outage Sunday<\/a> that was supposed to last from midnight\u00a0to 7 a.m., affecting the Clipper mobile app, website and machines.<\/p>\n<p>Redditors expressed doubts about this timeline.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI give it less than 50% odds of working. Expect a multi day outage. The company handling this has f\u2014ked it up in just about every way possible, so expectations should be low,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/sanfrancisco\/comments\/1ty00el\/planned_clipper_add_value_outage_on_sunday\/\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">wrote one user.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Clipper has experienced a host of issues in recent months, including an outage that took down machines for nearly 30 hours in May.
