Crunch Fitness is flexing its muscles on Long Island<\/a>, adding three new locations in its ongoing\u00a0area\u00a0expansion.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n

The global fitness chain opened its newest Long Island gym complex on Tuesday, June 2, at 121 Broadhollow Road in Melville.\u00a0The new Melville Crunch\u00a0takes up a three-story, 28,000-square-foot\u00a0building, part of which was formerly occupied by Blink Fitness.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Crunch franchisee Lewis Breslau is the owner and operator of the new Melville fitness center,\u00a0his sixth Crunch on Long Island, joining others in Bellmore, East Meadow, Amityville, West\u00a0Babylon\u00a0and Hauppauge.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n

Breslau also just leased\u00a018,000 square feet\u00a0of retail<\/a> space\u00a0in the Stop & Shop anchored shopping center at 23 East Park Ave. in Long Beach, where he plans to open another Crunch Fitness location. About\u00a013,000 square feet\u00a0of that space was formerly occupied by a Rite Aid store.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n

Another franchisee, Michael Kleeman, is building a\u00a021,285-square-foot\u00a0Crunch Fitness at 700 Sunrise Highway in Patchogue,\u00a0replacing\u00a0a Jennifer Furniture store on the 3.7-acre property.\u00a0Once the Patchogue and Long Beach locations are opened, there will be nine Crunch Fitness\u00a0centers on Long Island.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Christopher Wierzbicki of Pliskin Realty & Development,\u00a0the exclusive broker for Crunch Fitness\u00a0on Long Island,\u00a0represented\u00a0the company in the Long Beach,\u00a0Patchogue\u00a0and Melville\u00a0lease transactions, as well as\u00a0almost all\u00a0of the\u00a0previous\u00a0Crunch leases on Long Island.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n

\u201cThe recent expansion of Crunch Fitness reflects both the strength of the brand and the quality of its local operators on the Island.\u00a0Their ability to adapt to evolving consumer preferences and fitness\u00a0trends has been a key driver of their continued growth,\u201d Wierzbicki told LIBN. \u201cEven though\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0been a challenging\u00a0expansion throughout the years due to limited inventory and high rents, we have still\u00a0been\u00a0able to find attractive deals for both landlord and tenants.\u201d\u00a0\n<\/p>\n

The all-in investment to open a Crunch Fitness franchise ranges from $668,000 to $3.48 million, according to\u00a0the company\u2019s franchise disclosure document. The\u00a0average annual revenue per unit is\u00a0about\u00a0$3.15\u00a0million for clubs opened from 37 to\u00a048 months, according to the company.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n

Founded in 1989 by former stockbroker Doug Levine with one gym in\u00a0Greenwich Village, Crunch\u00a0began\u00a0franchising<\/a>\u00a0the concept in 2010, which has propelled its growth. Today, the chain\u00a0boasts\u00a0some\u00a03 million members\u00a0in\u00a0over\u00a0500 locations\u00a0throughout the U.S., Canada, Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, Spain,\u00a0Portugal\u00a0and Australia.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n

Los Angeles-based\u00a0private equity firm\u00a0Leonard Green & Partners\u00a0acquired\u00a0a majority stake in Crunch Fitness from TPG Growth in April 2025.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n
