Alameda restaurant openings<\/p>\n

Bake Sum <\/p>\n

05.05.26: Bake Sum<\/a>\u00a0has\u00a0arrived in Alameda<\/a>\u00a0at the former Feel Good Bakery space inside Alameda Marketplace. Bake Sum,\u00a0voted the East Bay\u2019s best bakery<\/a>\u00a0in 2025 by Nosh readers, is known for Asian American-style pastries \u2013 a mix of Asian bakery buns and French-style pastries, with items that quickly sell out like passionfruit tarts, ube cookies, mochi muffins, and a croissant inspired by Spam musubi. The shop, which opened on Grand Avenue in Oakland about five years ago, is owned by Joyce Tang, who has a forthcoming cookbook co-authored with journalist Soleil Ho. The opening was Saturday, May 9 at 9 a.m.\u00a0Bake Sum<\/a>, 1650 Park St., Alameda<\/p>\n

Jamba Juice <\/p>\n

06.02.26: The Jamba Juice in Alameda Landing was closed for several months, and is now back open.\u00a0Jamba Juice<\/a>, 2650 5th St., Alameda\u00a0<\/p>\n

MIX Bar <\/p>\n

05.05.26:\u00a0A new cocktail bar focusing on mixed drinks and live DJs soft opened in Alameda. The menu includes drinks like a pandan old fashioned and a Sonrisa bourbon-based drink with calamansi and egg white. MIX Bar is run by some of the same folks behind the popular Somar Bar in Uptown Oakland, which closed about three years ago after a long stint in the neighborhood. Berkeley restaurant openings<\/p>\n

Dumpling Day<\/p>\n

05.26.26: A new dumpling spot\u00a0opened in Berkeley. The menu features pan fried mini dumplings and xiao long bao (soup dumplings). Beyond dumplings,\u00a0the menu is extensive<\/a>, including mala soups, smoked chicken, and noodle soups.\u00a0Dumpling Day<\/a>, 2115 Kittredge St., Berkeley<\/p>\n

Dera Cafe<\/p>\n

05.26.26: Dera Cafe has\u00a0soft opened in Berkeley<\/a>\u00a0in the former location of\u00a0Guerilla Cafe<\/a>, which closed in December after 20 years of operation. Dera Cafe serves chai, coffee, pastries, and desserts.\u00a0Dera Cafe<\/a>, 1620 Shattuck Ave., Berkeley<\/p>\n

DH Noodles and Grill<\/p>\n

05.26.26: DH Noodles and Grill serves Chinese regional dishes such as Lanzhou handpulled noodles, \u201cda pan ji\u201d (big plate chicken), spicy cumin lamb, and a variety of other Northwestern Chinese classics.\u00a0DH Noodles and Grill<\/a>, 2475 Telegraph Ave., Berkeley<\/p>\n

ChaHalo<\/p>\n

06.02.26: A\u00a0new milk tea spot<\/a>\u00a0just opened in Berkeley. ChaHalo is a chain from Xi\u2019an, China, serving teas made from freshly steeped tea leaves (versus powder mixes). One of its signature drinks is the osmanthus oolong milk tea.\u00a0ChaHalo<\/a>, 2041 University Ave., Berkeley<\/p>\n

El Trompudo<\/p>\n

05.26.26: A new taco spot has opened in Berkeley near the Cal campus. El Trompudo specializes in Jalisco-style Mexican food from the owners of a restaurant in El Sobrante. Their Berkeley restaurant is housed in the former Joshu-ya, one of Berkeley\u2019s first sushi restaurants that opened in 1978 (it\u00a0closed in 2017<\/a>).\u00a0El Trompudo<\/a>, 2441 Dwight Way, Berkeley<\/p>\n

Hinodeya<\/p>\n

05.26.26: A popular ramen chain has arrived in\u00a0Berkeley<\/a>. Hinodeya is known for their\u00a0dashi broth ramen soups<\/a>, including a\u00a0creamy vegan ramen<\/a>\u00a0and their house ramen special with chashu. Hinodeya has several restaurants in San Francisco and one in Newark. Hinodey in Berkeley has soft opened and is holding its grand opening on Monday, June 1.\u00a0Hinodeya<\/a>, 2309 Telegraph Ave., Berkeley<\/p>\n

Glom Thai<\/p>\n

06.02.26: A new Thai spot has opened in Berkeley. Glom Thai recently\u00a0soft opened<\/a>\u00a0with\u00a0a menu\u00a0<\/a>of small plates, charcoal grilled dishes, whole fish, vegetarian dishes, and curries. Glom is in the\u00a0former location of Sistory Thai<\/a>.\u00a0Glom Thai<\/a>, 1233 San Pablo Ave., Berkeley<\/p>\n

Gurkha Kitchen Express<\/p>\n

06.02.26:\u00a0A Nepali restaurant has opened in Berkeley, serving momos (dumplings), other Nepali dishes, and Indian cuisine. Gurkha has other locations in the Bay Area, including in Hayward, San Jose, and San Ramon.\u00a0Gurkha Kitchen Express<\/a>, 2493 Telegraph Ave., Berkeley<\/p>\n

Hopkins Cafe<\/p>\n

06.02.26:\u00a0Hopkins Cafe is now open, in the former Espresso Roma space in North Berkeley. Its\u00a0menu<\/a> includes espresso drinks, juices, omelettes, bagels, salads, sandwiches, burgers, and milkshakes.\u00a0Hopkins Cafe<\/a>, 1549 Hopkins St., Berkeley<\/p>\n

Narwhal Urban Village<\/p>\n

05.26.26: Reader Juliet tipped us off that a\u00a0new Indian restaurant<\/a>\u00a0has\u00a0opened in Berkeley<\/a>. Narwal serves tandoori dishes, a variety of breads, and has a vegetarian menu in the former House of Curries restaurant space.\u00a0Narwal Urban Village<\/a>, 3136 Sacramento St., Berkeley<\/p>\n

Sightglass <\/p>\n

05.05.26: Sightglass Coffee\u00a0arrived in the East Bay<\/a> Thursday, May 7 in Berkeley.\u00a0East Bay NOSH<\/a>\u00a0had the scoop on the new space, located across the UC Berkeley campus in a student housing complex. Sightglass, 2169 University Ave., Berkeley<\/p>\n

Hayward restaurant opening<\/p>\n

West Coast Sourdough<\/p>\n

05.19.26: The sandwich chain founded in San Francisco recently opened a shop in Hayward, serving about 20 types of sandwiches on their sourdough roll.\u00a0West Coast Sourdough<\/a>, 26201 Mission Blvd., Hayward<\/p>\n

Oakland restaurant openings<\/p>\n

Dave & Buster\u2019s<\/p>\n

05.05.26: The arcade and restaurant chain opened in Oakland\u2019s Jack London Square May 4. Think a large claw machine that holds up a human, darts, shuffleboard, and large-screen TVs for sports-watching, plus beer and bar food.\u00a0Dave & Buster\u2019s<\/a>, 55 Harrison St., Oakland<\/p>\n

Kathiew House of Oakland<\/p>\n

05.05.26: A popular Cambodian beef noodle soup spot is\u00a0back in operation<\/a>\u00a0after taking a pause for a few months. Kathiew House used to sell noodle soups and other Cambodian dishes from a home kitchen and is now set up outside at A&R Market in East Oakland. Kathiew opened the weekend of May 2, and plans to only be open on weekends starting at 9 a.m. until sold out.\u00a0Kathiew House<\/a>at A&R Market, 3615 Foothill Blvd., Oakland<\/p>\n

Kitsch Coffee<\/p>\n

05.26.26: A\u00a0new coffee shop<\/a>\u00a0has arrived in Jack London Square, located next to\u00a0Narrative<\/a>\u00a0vintage collective.\u00a0Kitsch Coffee<\/a>, 590 Second St., Oakland<\/p>\n

La Perla Tapatia Cafe<\/p>\n

05.26.26: A new cafe and sandwich shop\u00a0has opened near Brookdale Park<\/a>\u00a0in Oakland. La Perla Tapatia Caf\u00e9 serves espresso drinks, matcha, breakfast items like crepe and avocado toast, salads, and sandwiches.\u00a0La Perla Tapatia Caf\u00e9<\/a>, 2603 B High St., Oakland<\/p>\n

Neighborhood Sports Club <\/p>\n

05.12.26: The new soccer club in Jack London neighborhood will hold its\u00a0grand opening celebration<\/a>\u00a0on Saturday, May 16. The club includes a cafe in addition to a retail store and soccer field.\u00a0Neighborhood Sports Club<\/a>, 100 Second St., Oakland<\/p>\n

Starline <\/p>\n

05.05.26: What\u2019s going on at the former Starline Social Club space? For a brief time, it was called\u00a0Bad Decision<\/a>, but owners told NOSH that after they took over last January, they have been reworking the concept. They recently partnered with\u00a0food purveyor<\/a>\u00a0Sistas Wings<\/a>\u00a0to lead the kitchen is now renamed Starline. Sistas Wings\u2019 menu includes not only wings, but oxtail, pork chops, lamb chops, and sides.\u00a0Starline, 2236 Martin Luther King, Jr. Way, Oakland<\/p>\n

Teni East Kitchen<\/p>\n

05.05.26: The popular Burmese restaurant\u00a0is now open<\/a>\u00a0in its\u00a0new Piedmont Avenue location<\/a>. Chef and owner Tiyo Shibabaw is originally from Ethiopia and worked as general manager at Burma Superstar before opening her own restaurant. Her dishes have a Cali-cuisine spin on Burmese dishes.\u00a0Teni East Kitchen<\/a>, 3770 Piedmont Ave., Unit B, Oakland<\/p>\n

Zeng\u2019s Family Kitchen<\/p>\n

05.12.26:\u00a0A new kiosk inside Swan\u2019s Market in Old Oakland has opened, taking over the space that formerly housed\u00a0Huang Cheng Potsticker<\/a>. Zeng\u2019s Family Kitchen recently soft opened, debuting a lunch menu that includes mapo tofu, honey walnut shrimp, and kung pao chicken over rice. The dinner menu has items like vegetarian\/mock chicken, mushu pork, and fish filet in garlic sauce.\u00a0Zeng\u2019s Family Kitchen<\/a>, 907 Washington St., Ste. H, Oakland<\/p>\n

San Ramon restaurant opening<\/p>\n

Meyhouse <\/p>\n

05.05.26: A new\u00a0Turkish restaurant<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0jazz venue<\/a>\u00a0opened the weekend of May 2 in San Ramon. The Meyhouse Restaurant Group opened this concept inside the City Center Bishop Ranch. Meyhouse also operates Meyhouse and Meyhouse Jazz in Palo Alto, Meyhouse Sunnyvale, and Meze & Kebab in Palo Alto.\u00a0Meyhouse<\/a>, 6000 Bollinger Canyon Road, Ste. 1505, San Ramon<\/p>\n

Walnut Creek restaurant openings<\/p>\n

Doppio Zero <\/p>\n

05.26.26: A new modern Italian restaurant\u00a0grand opens in Walnut Creek<\/a>\u00a0this Wednesday, May 27. The restaurant serves neapolitan style pizzas, pastas, and Southern Italian entrees. The opening, from 6-8:30pm, includes a ribbon cutting and free pizza slices and small plates. This is the Bay Area chain\u2019s sixth location.\u00a0Doppio Zero<\/a>, 1522 N. Main Street, Walnut Creek<\/p>\n

Kitava<\/p>\n

05.12.26: The Bay area gluten free restaurant chain\u00a0opened its doors in Walnut Creek<\/a>\u00a0last week. The restaurant sells build-your-own bowls and other dishes. Kitava\u00a0describes itself<\/a>\u00a0as a clean restaurant using healthier ingredients, avoiding gluten, dairy, peanuts, and soy. The two other East Bay locations are in North Oakland and Albany.\u00a0Kitava<\/a>, 1699 N California Blvd., Walnut Creek<\/p>\n

Mensho<\/p>\n

05.26.26: Mensho ramen soft opened this week in Walnut Creek. The much-lauded ramen chain from Tokyo specializes in rich broths, tantan miens, and vegan ramen. An\u00a0Oakland location<\/a>\u00a0opened in 2023 on Piedmont Avenue and there are\u00a0two locations<\/a>\u00a0in San Francisco. Mensho<\/a>, 1512 N. Main St., Walnut Creek<\/p>\n

Marufuku Ramen<\/p>\n

05.19.26: Marufuku Ramen opens in Walnut Creek on Wednesday, May 27. The restaurant serves Hakata-style ramen in a rich Tonkotsu broth. The menu also includes wagyu and yakitori dishes. The local chain was founded in San Francisco\u2019s Japantown in 2017, and now has more than a dozen locations.\u00a0Marufuku Ramen<\/a>, 1630 Cypress St., Walnut Creek\u00a0<\/p>\n
